Fractures in GOP will cost them the election.

Featured Replies

Lots of things will cost the GOP this election and it sure isn't the competition. This election cycle is a mess.

Trump will clean up his act. He will get coached up. The party will help him shape his message. It is already starting to happen. Many independents are lost to him but he can get back the Republicans, especially against Hillary as there is a deep Clinton hatred baked into Republicans over the past 25 years.

The most challenging group for Trump may be the Cruz far right, evangelical supporters. Will they vote for a multiple time marriage/divorcee? I have read some knowledgable evangelical leaders who said those voters will just sit out a Hillary/Trump contest. That is bad news for Trump.

If Trump is the nominee, this election will come down to one thing. Can Trump beat Reagan's record of white voter support? I think he has a chance to do it. It is a long shot but there is a long way to go and a lot can happen, as Bluto said commented.above.

I believe that Obama recently opened the door wide open for Cruz supporters to turn their support to Trump (should he be the nominee).

Trump was asked for his thoughts immediately after Obama made his SCOTUS nomination. Trump responded by saying that as president, he would nominate someone as close to Antonin Scalia as possible. Evangelical supporters (of which I am one) know how vital the Supreme Court is for protecting our constitutional rights (instead of rewriting them).

Faced with the prospect of who would be appointing judges, we will NOT sit out and turn it over to Hillary.

GOP will have 16 years to figure out their game plan. 8 years of Hillary, 8 years of Michelle.

Now you're just being mean, plantman. Some of these guys can't take that. Michelle said this week she ain't running.

Political conservative but our party is really, really stupid.

Political liberal, but I can't say much better about our party, either.

...and one Obama said he was going to fix health care................

VOR,

solid post my friend.

Here's the problem, Cruz an Kasich can't beat HRC. Like it or not the only one with a reasonable chance is Trump.

With that said, the establishment spending 200mil to stop Trump tells me they are more concerned with protecting their glass house.

Trump is and will bring in millions of new voters. Don't they want those?

The gop is no longer a party of bible thumpers, they better wake up.

NBC = liberal propaganda

Why would someone believe a biased news station with a poll of a group they hate.

The gop is no longer a party of bible thumpers, they better wake up.

I will say this much, if Trump can make this the case then it wouldn't be all for naught. The evangelicals are like a leash tied around the GOPs throat like a noose. If the party starts to stray too far from what they want they jerk it back hard and slowly strangle the life out of the party.

The Tea Party movement should have been a groundswell of libertarianism injected into the party, but it got co-opted by the religious right and instead of bringing in the ideas of individual liberty it became all about religious conservatism along with some financial conservatism. There should have been more Rand Pauls in that group and fewer Ted Cruz's.

There are many in my generation who are all about individual rights and financial restraint but we are so turned off by the penchant that the religious right has for wanting to trample all over what consenting adults do in their own lives, what they consume, who they love, who they marry, who they worship, or how they worship that they turn us off enough to sit out, vote third party, or in some cases (god forbid) vote democrat.

I have no problem with people passionate about their faith, I do have a problem with when they use that faith to try to make something illegal that they find against their faith. Dry counties, objecting to same sex marriage, and wanting aspects of your faith taught in a public school are all things that cross the line to many of us who would otherwise vote R. I haven't voted R for president since 2004. I have voted libertarian since then. I had a brief moment of excitement in 2010 with the rise of the tea party movement only to have it squashed for the aforementioned reasons above.

You can base some of your political views around religious beliefs, you just can't beat people in the head anymore. This is 2016 not 1916. This logic is why Ted Cruz has no chance in a general election.

Rance said after the autopsy report on the gop, "we need to expand our base, become more diverse"...

Trump has done just that, but ole Rance is still not happy.
