March 9, 201610 yr I think they Texans are quickly becoming one of the best 2-3 teams in the AFC. Stud WR, solid RB core, above-average QB, and an outstanding defense. Being successful at QB for the Super Bowl Champs and being successful at QB for the Texans are two different things. Maybe UK, but paint me skeptical.

They would have made room. If you have a franchise QB you dont let him walk. Teams can always make room. They would have had to make an extra 3 mil a year to open up for him, I believe they could have made it happen...

So they may not know he is a franchise QB, but they were still apparently willing to spend 15 million a year for him. Which I am sure they thought that would definitely keep him. I truly don't think they thought there was any chance another team would snag him away from them. Plus you don't want to hurt the rest of the team with a deal that kills them from keeping pieces on the team, like how the Flacco deal hurt the Ravens. Which at least Flacco was proven.

Especially a good backup qb who is very cheap. So unless you get a first round pick for him, then you don't trade him. Especially with Dalton coming off an injury to his throwing hand.

When is his value going to be any higher than it is right now to the Bengals? He's signed through next season and then he will be gone because Mike Brown will not pay him what he will probably be worth on the open market.

You must still be living in the 90s if you still are going with the Mike Brown won't pay people. As I said in the other thread, what team does pay alot of money for a backup lineman? Also yes the Bengals probably won't pay as much as another team will when McCarron is a free agent because when he is a free agent a team probably will sign him starter money. Not to mention McCarron even if offered a good contract by Mike Brown would still leave to go to a place that he may have a job to compete for a starting spot. As I said unless you can get a 1st round pick for him you don't trade him. Your right his stock is high but unless it's a 1st round pick you don't do it. Having a backup qb you can win with is more valuable than getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick. It's not like the Bengals are a bad team needing draft picks to re build. The Bengals are in great shape financially, youth wise, draft pick wise and are in position to win. People need to get out of this old mindset. The are not re building and don't need to try to get an extra draft pick at the expense of losing a backup qb you can win with. Maybe next off season they can look into it, but makes no sense to right now.
