He'll be a junior next year. Current sophomore.

I don't remember hearing his name last year. But I can't remember things like I use to.

He wasn't eligible to play football last season until late October and he briefly played basketball on the JV team.

I think I know now. Just took a little jogging of the mind. Thanks

Any updates on the QB situation? I didn't know if Tiller had recovered from his injury and is participating in June workouts. I heard the same thing as the previous post mentioned Walker is the front runner for the QB position. I did hear the transfer that's a freshman Hotchkis has been impressive so far and has great speed and a good arm.

I heard Tiller is still expected to be the QB if he is healthy. Until then Walker is the starting QB. I heard Reed Lanter quit basketball over a week ago to focus more on football and the battle at QB between him and Hotchkiss is expected to be very competitive.

I li heard it is possible we will see Landon Bartleson and Reese Smith at wide receiver this year. Two of the better athletes in the entire school on the field should be a lot of fun to watch.

My son will play for the freshman team this year, and I have talked to several of the varsity players and they tell me that walker will be the starting QB this season.

I promise we will know the starting quarterback no later than Aug 20!

I feel confident if Sam Tiller is 100%, he takes the first snap.

As of today he is. Just depends on when Tiller is healthy enough to play again. That's when the fun starts.

Did anyone get a chance to see 7 on 7 last week. I heard some talk that it Boyle really had a lot to work on, which I guess would be expected. I believe Tiller and Walker both played Qb. I was told and they both looked ok. I also heard the JV looked like they needed a lot of work also. Did anyone actual witness 7 on 7 to confirm any of this.

Boyle, as expected, looks a little rough at the skilled positions. Tiller obviously looks rusty and Walker is very green. Lanter and Hotchkis both took a few reps and look good mechanically, but they also have freshman bodies.

There are plenty of shoes to fill this year as Boyle lost so many skilled players last year. But I think the Rebels will be right where they should be come post season.

I feel they may struggle early but like you said will be fine by the end of the year. I heard Smith is only letting 3 freshman practice varsity at this point but Smith and Bartleson will help with the skilled positions by mid season after they adjust and I have heard Kelly will possibly play right away on already a pretty good line.

Is that comment based on expectations or past performance?

Probably past performance because Boyle returns the majority of their lineman from last season. Just speculation on my part

I get fussed on private message from time to time for being critical of Boyle. I am a HUGE Boyle fan but I don't sugarcoat and I call it like I see it. Boyle went as far as the Oline could take them last year and you lost Shelton, Yeager and Ellis off the oline. They were still shuffling starters at a couple spots last year 5 or 6 games into the season. The Rebels still have too many linemen going both ways and have a long way to go to be State Champ caliber. The last two Rebel State teams had NO OLINE going both ways. Look at the SR skill players last year and Josie was running for his life a lot. It all starts up front and the Rebels have been short in that area the last 3 or 4 years. Each year we have some really good ones but there are always holes that wait for someone to really step into and claim that spot and it doesn't seem to happen. Boyle has to find some linemen the next 3 or 4 year with some of the other talent they have to really have a chance to get number 8. They will fight hard this year but if they can find a young core group of OL to learn together they will be dangerous in the future. They have got some kids that are going to be really fun to watch the next few years but if they don't find some MEN to do the dirty work UP FRONT they will fall in the 3rd or 4th round each of the next 4 or 5 years. Just my most humble opinion of course.

I think this incoming freshmen class along with some of this years sophomores will change your mind over the next 3 to 4 years.
