So here is what I've read so far:

-Both teams shot poorly.

-The officiating was questionable for both teams.

-Yazell choked on the line, and it cost the game.

-Yazell and O'Mara go 24-10 and 23-10 respectively.

-Mason gets the win.

-No one, including MC fans are happy with the game.

 

Sounds like Kentucky Tournament basketball to me!

 

Throw in these and I'll agree with you 100% (although I hate to say she "choked" and cost them the game. They had other ways they could have won).

-Both teams played really hard right up to the final buzzer, and

-Yazell girl never came out of the game (so fatigue and pressure) probably contributed to the misses.

Here is the problem. They had an incredible run last season...they were playing their best basketball at the end of the year. However, they benefited from a GREAT draw at state. Look at their record and scores from a year ago...they weren't a great team. They were a solid team who played their best basketball at the end of the year.

 

If anything this years team looks MUCH better...but the 10th region is better and when/if they get to state they won't have as easy of a time (although being in the top bracket at the state is still a nice draw).

 

People will want to crucify the coach if they fail to get back to state...but the body of work this year proves that they have made progress and are a better team then a year ago, but the path to get back to the same spot is also much more difficult. Give the girls and coaching staff a break. Enjoy last years run for what it was but don't judge this year's team based on last years finish.

If they play that way against Scott, and that smothering defense...will not be a good result for the Lady Royals.

 

"Smothering Defense" from Scott is questionable if you are looking at their game vs. Nicholas... They won 70-39 where as Mason won 66-12 in the regular season. I don't mean to negate they way Scott plays, but, given both score I'm sure both teams would "smother" Nicholas.

Exactly. Hopefully this young lady is not hanging her head. I'm sure she would have loved to hit those free throws, but as you stated, this is not even a game without her.

I agree. I made an earlier post in another forum saying "Yazell choked on the line" but never would I take away the game she had. Coach Cox on the radio said O'Mara "Went to war for the team" but I think it's safe to say that both Yazell and O'Mara went to war. All the ladies fought hard in a game that holds true to the statement below:

Sitting amongst the MC fans during the game I heard several comments from parents about how this was the worst they had seen thier team play all season. While that may or may not be true what is true is that both teams were slugging it out in every aspect of the game, from the physical rebounding, attacking drives to the brick wall picks (most notably the pick of O'Mara that leveled her....very tough kid).

 

That said, the one thing that I haven't read from anybody is the posibility that maybe teams have finally gotten enough looks at Mason County and figured a few things out.

 

Congrats to Mason on the win and a big shout out to Bourbon for not going quietly. What a great game to watch.

Mason shot 22-59, 37%, 4-18 three's and 7-15 on FTs.

Bourbon shot 17-51 33%, 6-18 three's and 12-20 FTs.

Mason had 40 Rebs and Bourbon had 41.
