Mason just simply could not put the ball in the basket from three point land, two point land, lay-ups and Free Throws. Played pretty good defense but Yazell was hot from three land early and the FT line until the end. I not dare to say anything about the refs in this game but I will say O'Mara about got here head taken off on a lay up in OT. Much shoot better Friday.

Brad Cox's assistants may have saved him from a T on that no call on O'Mara. That game was fun to call!

 

Officiating was inconsistent in both games tonight.

I really think the weight of expectations is getting to the Lady Royals. From the start of the year, they've been told that it'll be great to play at BBT for the State Tourney. Well with each game I think the weight has been getting heavier. They are playing tense and shots aren't falling. To their credit they've survived up till now.

 

If they don't relax and just play their "A" game against Scott, they could see another night like last night. And I don't think they'll see the same fate. But if they play their game and make shots, I still think they have the most weapons in the 10th Region.

O'Mara was 23 and 10 with Yazell was 24 and 10.

 

Sumo...Do you have stats from last night? It seemed like MC shot less than 40% on the night. And probably got out rebounded as well.

Partly because of the success of the program a year ago.

 

In this case they weren't playing Campbell, GRC, or Scott. They were playing Bourbon County, a 17-15 team, who the Lady Royals had dispatched by 26 points as recently as February 16th

 

Campbell, GRC, or Scott will get their whack at them in a few days. It just seems surprising that the Lady Royals are struggling to advance through the distirct and regional tournament.

 

Nothing more and nothing less.

 

Is Mason County playing tight? I'm speculating, but could they be feeling the pressure of high expectations? 1 close call is one thing, but 2 is a pattern. Especially agaist opponents they handled easily before.

Mason is ranked in the Top 10 in all 3 categories statewide, and is 1st in 3 pt %. terribly uncharacteristic night all around for the ladies from Maysville.

Here is the problem. They had an incredible run last season...they were playing their best basketball at the end of the year. However, they benefited from a GREAT draw at state. Look at their record and scores from a year ago...they weren't a great team. They were a solid team who played their best basketball at the end of the year.

 

If anything this years team looks MUCH better...but the 10th region is better and when/if they get to state they won't have as easy of a time (although being in the top bracket at the state is still a nice draw).

 

People will want to crucify the coach if they fail to get back to state...but the body of work this year proves that they have made progress and are a better team then a year ago, but the path to get back to the same spot is also much more difficult. Give the girls and coaching staff a break. Enjoy last years run for what it was but don't judge this year's team based on last years finish.

I agree with ya but the conversations I've had with Mason fans that's the impression I got. Expectations will always be higher once you have had a great year like they did. Especially with the entire team coming back.

 

Win or loose next year will be the same way.

So here is what I've read so far:

-Both teams shot poorly.

-The officiating was questionable for both teams.

-Yazell choked on the line, and it cost the game.

-Yazell and O'Mara go 24-10 and 23-10 respectively.

-Mason gets the win.

-No one, including MC fans are happy with the game.

 

Sounds like Kentucky Tournament basketball to me!
