Why would they do that?

When they enter high school do they play for marion or washington county?

The explanation that I have been told is that the archdioceses in Louisville and Marion Co schools do not have an agreement as far as insurance is concerned when comes to athletes.

 

They play for the school they attend.

That could also be something hurting Marion County as well, they could be losing some kids to Washington County.

 

Looking back at past records I seen Coach Robbins came in when the program was down. 0-10 year before he came and 1-9 His 4th and 5th year they won 9 games and a Regional title in the 6th year. Loved Coach Robbins excellent coach and was even a better man RIP.

 

Point is whomever gets the job it will take time to get the program back on track. At least give the coach 4 years his get his program in place. I really wish Crume would have stayed I believe he could have turned them around.

When taking high school football jobs it a couple ways to look at it. Take the Adair county and Marion County jobs for isntance.

 

Adair County is 19-5 last two seasons (Best 2 years in schools history). 2,300 rushing yards and 40 Td's returning. 1,700 passsing yards and 22 Td's retutning, 1,700 receving yards and 22 Td's returning. So you could take this job and be expected to have a GREAT year, as you. Your looking at 1 regular season lose Etown maybe, and Playoff game against Caldwell or PT I would assume. So your assured one successful year, but what will it be after that?

 

Then you look at the marion county job who is 10-23 over the last 3 years and was 0-10 this past season. So you should be given more time at Marion to produce a winner.

 

So looking 2 years from now if your 6-6 at Marion it will look a WHOLE lot better than 6-6 at Adair County. So IMO people would want the job because of low expectations and a chance to build from the ground up.

Marion is a place, like other schools in this area, that has positives and negatives. They have good athletes and pretty good size and even though they haven't had much success of late, they have a base of young kids that could be tough in the years to come. If Coach Jaggers is interested I for one hope he gets it because you can't have enough positive role models for young men today. Travis DID raise the bar at Adair to unprecedented levels so the next coach would be wise to use him as a resource since he is remaining on as assistant principal.

I think the challenge and rewards of building a program on any level of football, is probably one of the biggest factors of coaching.

 

Marion has potential, to me. I've seen some of their kids the last several years and really would have thought they could have done more. Up until last year, they had a beyond rough district, but things can obviously only go up.

 

I have no connection to Marion at all, and absolutely no dog in that fight, but I really would love to see them build a great program.

 

And, I think they need to name the stadium or field after Robbins. But, that's another subject for another time.

I agree some coaches like the challenge. Being realist it's probably only a hand full of teams with a shot to win a state title. So if you can't win a state title, so will get the same enjoyment by rebuilding programs.

All good stuff guys. Not too familiar with the Marion area, so that all stuff I would just be guessing on. Guess we will now just wait to see who actually applied and what decision Marion comes up with. Sounds like if the right guy gets the job then we could see some good things coming down the road.

Marion is one of the most difficult jobs in Central Kentucky. You can compare the athletes their to the one's at a Mercer. Marion is a Rural school with inner city kids in the mix. Coach Robbins along with Assistant Principal Robbie Peterson were able to manage the on/off the field situations with the program. There were other great assistants on the staff that were non-teachers, and Coach Peterson does not coach anymore. Tom Sullivan past head coach at Marion works with the Middle School team, but like said before there seems to be little togetherness when it comes to the program at this time. The right person can be very successful, but this person will need time and full-time help that they can trust, and teach within the building at MCHS. In addition, I think Sullivan runs the weight program and I believe that position must go to the Head Coach.
