I could be wrong but I believe the only school he would be eligible to play for immediately would be Apollo. If that is even possible.

I believe it. Jaylen Beckham had to sit out a year after going from LexCath to Huntington Prep to Bryan Station.

Same here. And maybe I'm old school but those good enough to play at the next level will be seen by someone at sometime. Especially if you play for the right AAU team. There's no real need to go from school to school if you are good enough and have the right support from April to August.

This is a subject that has been bothering me for a few years now. I've been blessed to get a lot of info about these kids but it always bothers me nonetheless.

Its hard for me to have an opinion one way or the other. Obviously the Apollo fan in me hates that the kids left. Since ive started covering the 3rd region for the Homers stuff, its kind of changed my mindset. Im always trying to look at, whats best for the kid?? That question isnt always black and white. Can anyone fault Trace for trying to better himself at a place like Huntington? He got to play in front of a national audience on ESPN and in multiple events that were highly scouted. Ben and Eli both have got to play in some pretty big national events as well. Both were McDonalds nominees. The competition level that the 3 have got to play against doesnt really compare to what they would be seeing in KY. In Eli's case at least, i think playing at 22 FT has better prepared him to step in and produce right away at Miss St.

 

The other side would be, did they REALLY benefit from leaving?? Eli signed with Miss State before the season even started. He could have went to Apollo and still played at Miss St. Trace left as a junior, could have played another year at Apollo or Ohio County and left his senior season. He has an extremely high ceiling but moving around as much as he has could send up a major red flag to colleges. Ben was playing his best basketball at 22 FT. He was playing the most minutes on a pretty good team and putting up some real good numbers. He had a few D1 looks and reclassified to 2017. I felt like he was benefiting the most BUT if he wanted to reclassify he could have played his senior season at Apollo and THEN went to 22 FT anyway, much like Justin Miller.

 

At the end of the day, i dont fault any of them for leaving. The name of the game is bettering yourself and thats what they were all trying to do. I think a run at Rupp and the schedule Barker laid out for them would have showcased them all, BUT it is what it is. Im pretty old school in the sense i put a lot of value in a state title. In the future, i hope the kids take put more value in a sweet 16 championship run.

I hope he remains ineligible. That would not be fair to the other teams in their district and region. On top of that if I were an Apollo player I wouldn't want him back. Before the transfers they had a great chance at winning state but quickly turned into the 4 seed in the district after everyone left. Those kids still at Apollo lost out on a lot because their "friends" left them. If it were me I wouldn't want him back.

Apollo should be the #1 team in Kentucky today…and probably would have been if Wright, Moss and Young had stay together. I said it when they left Apollo and I got critized…now bad outside influences have taken it's toll on three great kids. With the state of high school basketball in this state this year (it doesn't look much better next year) Apollo would probably be the favorite to win the Sweet Sixteen this year…and Eli Wright would have had a great chance to be Mr. Basketball. With coaching being able to watch players on the internet right from thier office with the latest technology, they will be found…and observed and recruited. All three of these young men have transferred from the school that they transferred to from Apollo - Wright to Apollo to IMG to 22 ft…Moss - Apollo to 22 ft…back to ????? Apollo, Young - Apollo to Hunington Prep to ?????. Now, where are the people that talked them in to leaving Apollo. I would guess they are no where to be found. My advise to young players is STAY PUT and don't listen to outside influences that are more interested in their egos than your well being. If you can play….coaches will fing you.

You obviously didn't see them during the summer. You will say "it's just summer ball" but they were getting killed by everyone. Bullitt East beat them by about 30. They had Eli Wright playing on the block. It was hard to watch.

I agree with everything WKY said.These kids could have done something special at Apollo but they chose to leave,that is what makes OHS title run last year so special,the kids stayed together. I heard some Prep Schools tried to get Holman to leave before his senior year, but he wanted that chance to win a state championship and he did,that team was a family and that is why they won it all.It is a shame them kids did not give Apollo the same chance.

It looks worse now because its taken so long to get eligible but in his defense, he applied for eligibility way back during the first week of January. That's not true. He was still playing with his prep school at Mustang Madness the first week of January. You can't be enrolled at 2 schools at the same time. Kentucky high schools don't operate that way.

It is a sad situation when high school sports are now manipulated by outside agencies and adults with their own agendas. If the KHSAA allows either of these kids to play this year they will lose whatever small bit of credibility they have left. Might as well just make it open enrollment and let kids move wherever they want and let boosters foot the bill!

I hate to keep going back and forth but what you are saying is not true. He played with his prep school on the Sunday of Mustang Madness which was January 10th.
