If Sally's family tours St. ABC and later says they loved it and would love to send Sally there but they in no way can afford the tuition even with tuition assistance and Sally will be attending Washington High .....but then Sally shows up at St. XYZ and Mom says it is because they do not have to pay tuition then that is a Diocese matter of the highest degree.

 

If a coach at St. XYZ is holding open gyms and then texting kids from other schools that they could start at Point Guard next year for him but you will be playing JV at Washington High or St. ABC next year then that is a KHSAA matter.

But one add on I would say the Diocese should do what's in the best interest of the Diocese not the KHSAA.

But you are not saying the Diocese should have handled the matter completely are you? I would think the Diocese should want the KHSAA to intervene in this matter. If the Diocese addresses it and says they stopped whatever wrong-doing there was would you be satisfied? I sure would not. It is not up to the Diocese to address the wrong-doing and be judge and jury. The best thing they should be doing is notifying the KHSAA if they believe a wrong was committed.

This is just a guess. But I'm guessing that any Catholic schools going to KHSAA didn't go to the leadership of Diocese first. So once the KHSAA comes out with findings , if they do at all. I'd like a statement from said leadership.

 

As far as I've known from the past the diocese itself has never strictly enforced the feeder school system and it's always seemed more of a suggestion.

 

Heck if the Bishop a few decades ago got his wish St. Pius would be a Holy Cross feeder school. He wanted to split the schools in a way where all schools had near equal High School attendance.

 

And that is why there is tuition, out of district tuition, and "other" tuition rates.

I find this fascinating as the Catholic schools in this neck of the woods aren't really under the authority of the Archdiocese of Louisville at least in the same way. There is no districting or restrictions on who goes where around here.

 

DeSales, St.X, Sacred Heart and Mercy were all founded by religious orders. Only Trinity, Assumption, and Holy Cross are/were tied to the diocese. Presentation I am honestly not sure about.

 

This level of oversight by the diocese of Covington is definitely different.
