The Diocese of Covington is in charge of all the Catholic High Schools in NKY, correct?

 

If so, why hasn't the Diocese of Covington handled the alleged infighting and alleged recruiting among their schools long before it ended up in the hands of the KHSAA?

 

It seems to me if there were any issues among the NKY Catholic High Schools the first stop for any of those schools would be Superintendent Mike Clines and not the KHSAA.

It is refreshing to see we are finding some common ground.

 

Just goes to show everyone why it is so important that Government and Religion be transparent.

Public vs private isn't new. Private vs Private is sorta new.

 

I just think if other Catholic schools are involved they need to do some reflection. The public schools will come for you next. It's not like they already don't grumble about them now.

What about the leadership of the Catholic schools? Both in house and at the Superintendent level?

Looks like another layer of leadership that needs to be held accountable if the allegations are true. From the Diocese website:

This is just a guess. But I'm guessing that any Catholic schools going to KHSAA didn't go to the leadership of Diocese first. So once the KHSAA comes out with findings , if they do at all. I'd like a statement from said leadership.

 

As far as I've known from the past the diocese itself has never strictly enforced the feeder school system and it's always seemed more of a suggestion.

 

Heck if the Bishop a few decades ago got his wish St. Pius would be a Holy Cross feeder school. He wanted to split the schools in a way where all schools had near equal High School attendance.

The Dioceses ignores sports for the most part except to make rules about when teams can play and practice. Also note that since the current Bishop took over you will not see any sports photos in The Messenger (Diocese newspaper). They used to have a photo of say Brossart playing St. Henry and a little notation but those were ordered out. Won't see any Thomas More sports stuff either.

 

As for student recruiting.......the legit kind.....the Diocese hands are kind of tied. No Bishop or Diocese is going to tell a Parishioner that they can't send their kid to the school both parents and Granny went to even if they have to drive past two other Catholic schools to drop the kid off. Nor should they be able to tell parents where their child has to go to school. There are more important things to worry about like how can parents afford the rising tuition costs at all Catholic schools especially if they have multiple kids.

I would also add the diocese has always found it important to keep parishes and schools open in urban areas as long as possible. They understand it's importance. Keeping Holy Cross open in Covington is very important to Diocese leadership.

 

From people I know I'd venture to say HC enrollment more than half come from outside the city. Without the students outside the city the school couldn't survive. The feeder schools inside the city are tiny and that's an understatement. Luckily Independence is a growing area and the parish out there is growing.

The KHSAA has a gazillion rules that all member schools have to follow so it doesn't matter what the Diocese wants or doesn't want, allows or doesn't allow, in this case there is a higher authority and Dioceses can't just bury their head in the sand.

I don't think they are burying their head in the sand unless they were contacted directly by schools and chose to do nothing. Even if they said, "Go to the KHSAA and report it" that is fine by me. If they deemed it a KHSAA matter then it should be handled by the KHSAA. If it is a Diocese matter then they should have handled it.

Of course we are talking hypotheticals here but if one of the Diocese schools could potentially face negative consequences by an official governing body (the KHSAA) that reflects negatively as a whole on the Diocese and therefore the Diocese should make every effort possible to solve the issue(s) between their schools before it escalates to the KHSAA.
