16th Region News!

I agree. Its good for him to sit and learn. But to think that it's some big steal for Russell and that he will make some huge impact in the region is laughable, atleast to me. His possibble impact on Russell is in no way a "checkmate" to Ashland hiring Coach Biggs as some people have asserted.

"atleast to me" is the key.

Having Prickett as an assistant is 10 times bigger news than hiring Biggs as a head coach. Let's see how many fans ask Biggs for his autograph this season in comparison to how many ask Prickett for his. If your assistant coach is signing autographs, its big news.

Wireman your killing me. Until Jared Prickett is a head coach don't even compare him to Biggs. I didn't know autographs won high school basketball games. Playing the game and coaching are certainly two different things. Evidently you think if you played for UK, your automatically going to be a good coach......... I guess I have missed all those UK players that are coaches at the high school level that have taken teams to the Sweet Sixteen. And in Kentucky, that is what High School basketball coaches want to achieve.

I think most of the people here making a big deal about Prickett aren't so much bragging about him being a good coach, as they are saying his name alone generates attention. Having someone like Prickett on your coaching staff can cause kids that normally wouldnt be playing for said school, to start migrating into that district.

Now thats a stretch, I thought Ashland was getting all the transfers this year?

I think the best description of Prickett woud be

Icing on the cake

I never once made any mention of winning games. I said that Prickett being an assistant is bigger news and will generate more publicity and talk around the region than Biggs being named Ashland's head coach. I never said anything about coaching - remember, I have lived in Morehead for 10 years and seen the Morehead State program under the lead of a legendary UK player. And yes, people still whispered all around town, "there's Kyle Macy..." or "there's Allen Edwards..."

I as well, am a Morehead grad and thank God even they finally wised up and got rid of him.

I think most programs would love to have Prickett on their bench. He may not have any coaching experience but how many high school assistant coaches do have until someone gives them a chance. One thing is for sure , he will be learning under someone that does know basketball and I am sure he will make every effort to learn as much from Dodd as he can. As for him being a player, that can only be a plus as he understands the sacrifice and hard work it takes to become a championship team.

Once again, its not about coaching.

Let's do a pole across the state and see a) how many people have heard of Jared Prickett vs. b) how many people have heard of Buddy Biggs or whatever his name even is.

As far as coaching, that may be a different story, but when it comes to publicity and name recognition, there's no comparison.

 I can see the headlines now: Jared Prickett signs 30 autographs as Russell struggles to break 40 points. I bet Prickett's autograph per game average will be higher than Russell's PPG average.

A pole? That would have to be a really long pole! Or wait, do you mean poll? ;) Last time I checked name recognition does not show up on the scoreboard.

Oops, thanks for pointing out my spelling error.

I still say that if Jared Prickett was going to be an assistant at mighty Ashland, we'd have to glue your fingers together to keep you from making posts about it.
