I don't quite buy the rebuild theory. 07-08 team was 2-9. 08-09 team was 7-4. You get the right coach in their and it don't take along time to turn things around.

Quick turnarounds can happen for sure. There is talent in that area for sure.

Henderson should be at the top of that region every year. I know McCracken, Meade, Central Hardin, etc. have good programs, but a school that size with that history should always be a major competitor in 6A-Region I.

The old size of school debate. It's been used for decades to insinuate Henderson Co. underachieves because of the size of the school. But in reality the schools that you say Henderson Co. should be on top of because of their size are all relatively close to the same size school as Henderson. Henderson Co enrollment is 1,972. McCracken Co. 1910. Central Hardin 1863. I'd like for Henderson to win the region as much as anyone, but their probably never going to achieve it based solely on the MASSIVE 62 kid enrollment difference between them and McCracken.

Henderson Co - 45,000 people

McCracken Co - 65,000 people

Hardin Co - 101,000 people

 

The school size argument is tired. Hendersons 1972 come from a pool of basically 1972. How many kids are in Hardin and McCracken Co?

 

No Henderson does not do a great job of getting all the talent on the field but what are you going to do? You can't make kids come out for football.

I think they will be in rebuild mode as well. The program was doing great when Clevenger left for Danville & Henderson had success in Lewis' first year.

 

They graduated 21 seniors this year off a team that accounted for 8 seniors on both offense and defense that struggled to a 4-7 finish (16 of 22 starters and others that got quality minutes). By my calculations, they return:

 

Total Rushing: 124 yds.

Total Passing: 420 yds.

Total Receiving: 15 yds.

Total TD's: 5

 

Those returning numbers, or lack of, would scare people away from jobs in the smaller classes, let a lone 6A. Their starting QB, Freshman Skip Patterson was the owner of three of those TD's and 485 of those 559 yards the Colonels return.

 

6A just isn't that desirable of a place to be & history backs that reasoning up; parody there isn't. One of the perks I think Henderson has is the fact that it's in 6A Region 1, but with it looking like 6A is about to go back to the whole playoff-region shuffling deal; that positive is about to be thrown out the window.

Kyle Ralph and Nick Hart come to my mind. Both from Indiana. Ralph is coaching in the Indy area and has done a great job of taking over a losing program and winning a state championship two years ago and losing in the finals in the last seconds last season. Nick Hart has also taken over a losing program and been to two Semi states in three years. Problem with Nick taking over is how he would feel facing his former team next season. Henderson and Gibson Southern are scheduled to play each other at Gibson Southern.

 

Why would Kyle Ralph leave New Palestine for Henderson Co?

Well Boston in his first year of head coaching at Union Co. sure did accomplish more than Tony Lewis in his 13th & 14th career seasons head coaching. I really think y'all over exaggerate the importance of expirence. Is it nice to have? Sure. But if you can coach you can coach. Clevenger was successful here and it was his first head coaching job & lets not forget Duffer, think what you want about the man but Henderson Co. was his first head coaching gig and he had some outstanding teams.

The problem that is constantly brought up about Henderson is that they don't get their best athletes to come out for football. If anyone can do that at Henderson it is without a doubt coach Boston. He's young the players can relate to him. He was the top assistant here for 5 or so years. He had a very successful season last year at Union. He's from and played football at Henderson County, you wouldn't have to worry about him skipping town every time a job opened somewhere. In my opinion if he wants the job, he's a can't miss candidate.

I tend to agree. He would not be looking to leave. His whole family inc his wife's family lives here. Actually a no brainier but same issues are there that kept him from getting the job before.

Other than not having head coaching experience I didn't hear of any other reasons that he didn't get the job. I don't believe that will be as big of a deal this go around for a few reasons. 1. He has head coaching experience albeit it's just one year but it's better than none.

2. I highly doubt their will be as many candidates for him to compete with for the job. Last go around I believe their were 48 applicants for the job because they were coming off I believe a 10 win season. Back to back loosing seasons should mean less people wanting it.

3. (Biggest reason) This is just speculation but I believe the thinking or the rationale behind hiring someone with the past success of Tony Lewis went something like this. "Well we've had tons of success here at football with some very inexperienced head coaches. I bet if we hire someone with credentials, success, and a state title then that'll get us over the hump and we'll be playing for state titles." Obviously that wasn't the case and I believe it may have been a lesson to the current administration that past success and experience isn't always a great indicator of what's to come. I just can't imagine experience being a huge determining factor in hiring a coach this time around when their least (by far) successful coach out of the past 3 was (by far) the most experienced.

There are other Henderson County Alums who have family still there who would probably want to come home. Plus have been successful at multiple stops!

Mr. Emmitt, ChiefSittingBull is confident the Chief of the UC Football Tribe will remain in Union County. If you think there is a greater chance for long term success in class 6A compared to 3A you clearly don't follow KY football.

Henderson Co has always gone for big name coaches with past success - the Clevenger hire.

 

Reese (with a couple championships) followed Hollowell...Duffy (with 4 State Championships) followed Reese...Obviously Duffer was in their following his Dad...then Lewis with a Championship followed Clevenger.
