Bill and OJ are victims. They appear to have been used since they first exhibited their extraordinary talent as preteens. I know that many believe that they are just learning the hard lessons of life. I suppose it depends on what lessons are involved. Have these boys manipulated or have they been manipulated? In truth, JPP, I have never remotely insinuated that the boys came to Rose Hill for a "strong Christian education". Also, to the best of my knowledge, Rickyp has never expressed that opinion either.

 

Actually, if you will check, I believe you will find that those references came from Rose Hill dissenters taking shots at the school and not from Rose Hill partisans.

 

Now, having said that, I should add that all of those boy and girls

will tell you that they benefitted from the positive influences that they experienced while at Rose Hill. Rose Hill is much different from its neighbors. No school has experienced more transfers of athletes than has Rose Hill. Nevertheless, I think you will find that most all who left feel welcome when they return to the school. If you doubt this, ask some of them. I'm sure you won't find this to be the case when kids transfer from other area schools.

I could hardly characterize Mayo and Walker as "victims" but one thing seems evident ... they have been used, to a certain extent, by those who act as if they act with their best interest in mind.

 

Rose Hill, as I stated three years ago when Mayo left the premises, was used as well ... because the school offered Mayo and Walker an oportunity to showcase their skills together as the undisputed stars of the program, something that wasn't widely available for them at the time because of their age (remember, Mayo was a middle schooler and ineligible to play varsity basketball in West Virginia).

I think its just awful the way these kids have been misguided in their young lives. I think there will be an investigation later after they get to the pros. Then Mayo and Walker will probably have a movie made about their lives and get even richer

You may be right, Sports Mojo. However, with all the emphasis on investigative reporters in this day and age, I think someone is missing out on a good opportunity to make a name for himself/herself. I realize that in the pecking order of what is really important in life, this matter is near the bottom of the list. Nonetheless, surely it has a little more significance than Tom Cruise's baby or Brittany Spears's latest indiscretion.

Yes, I do agree with you scooterbob. These kids have been used ever since there elementary school days. I remember seeing OJ down at a Mason Co tourney when he was in the 6th grade and playing for the West Virginia Express. Even then he had a posse of people ( none of which seemed to be his parent ) not quite as big as he does now but this is a 6th grader you know. But none the less these "kids" who by now are adults have to learn sometime that their actions will cause reactions. I have a feeling all of this might wind up in court someday after OJ starts making some serious money.

Good points, uknowho1. Both boys will be nineteen later this year. Both need to be aware of their environment. For their own good, they need to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Westsider, I will tell you that my memory isn't as good as it used to be concerning the schools Bill attended. I went back and looked at some of my post at the time and anyone can do the same by searching the site for Bill Walker. I think if you read my post back then you will see that I and others knew this was going to happen and tried to warn those involved.

 

If my memory serves me correctly Bill finished 6th grade in 1999. The next year he enrolled with OJ and others at Rose Hill in the 6th grade. Bill left the school early in the year and went to Camack in Huntington as a 7th grader and finished the year as such. Year 1999-2000

 

The next year I believe he went to Cincinnati and was enrolled at a private school. This is confirmed in one thread by a former poster know as Saint Elsewhere. He was enrolled in the 8th grade and completed the school year as an 8th grader. This was the school year 2000-2001.

 

The following year he enrolled at Huntington St. Joe as a Freshman. This was confirmed by documents obtained from St. Joe when he transfered to Rose Hill in September or October. Further evidence that this was the case is that St. Joe had to sign off on his transfer to Rose Hill due to him being a high school student. I know first hand that St. Joe at first refused to sign and held the paperwork as long as possible. This would not have been necessary if he were in the 8th grade. Once he enrolled at Rose Hill he was placed in the 9th grade. The Daily Independent and other sources also list him as a 9th grader that season. In February of 2002 he withdrew from Rose Hill after Rose Hill refused to move him back to the 8th grade and enrolled in Cincinnati as an 8th grader. This was 2001-2002.

 

In 2002-2003 he was listed as a Freshman at NCH and the rest is history.

As always, Rickyp is factual. I would make one minor adjustment to his post. I think Rickyp is a year behind in his chronology. Bill came to Rose Hill as a sixth grader and left after a month or so to return to Cammack in Huntington as a seventh grader in 2000-2001. He was an eighth grader in 2001-2002 as described by Rickyp. He returned to Huntington St. Joseph to start the 2002-2003 year and transferred, much to the chagrin of HSJ, to Rose Hill as a ninth grader in October of 2002. He left Rose Hill in early in 2003 and enrolled as an eighth grader at NCH.

 

Many, including the OHSAA, ask how both Bill and O could be in the sixth grade at Rose Hill in 2000-2001 and, when Bill returned two years later, he was a ninth grader and O was an eighth grader. The answer, of course, is when he returned to Huntington, he was placed in the seventh grade and not the sixth grade. Actually, nothing sinister at all. That is just how it was handled.

 

I continue to question NCH's claim of ignorance as to what took place. Actually, if you bother to seek the facts, it is quite simple. Surely, NCH would have checked it all out, don't you think?
