Philadelphia Police Officer ambushed...Terrorism?

Featured Replies

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) --

Officials say the suspect in custody for the shooting that seriously injured a Philadelphia police officer has confessed to the crime, saying he did it 'in the name of Islam.'

Commissioner Richard Ross provided that update during a news conference on Friday afternoon. He said there was no indication from the suspect, 30-year-old Edward Archer of Yeadon, that he was involved in a conspiracy.

Archer had pledged his allegiance to ISIS, officials say, calling the shooting "an attempted assassination of a police officer."

Ross went on to say that Archer "stopped short of implicating anyone else in the attack," adding Archer was "very evasive."

Also at the news conference, Mayor Jim Kenney said the shooting had nothing to do with "being a Muslim or the Islamic faith."

Ross also said the gun used in the shooting was a police firearm that was stolen from a home.

The shooting happened 11:40 p.m. on Thursday.

Surveillance images show a man, identified as Archer, approaching the driver's side window of Hartnett's vehicle.

The entire thing was caught by a traffic camera, man just walked up and started shooting. Officer was struck 3 times, returned fire and hit the man.

Looks like he was trying to execute him in his car.

First and foremost I'm glad the officer is ok. Also glad they were able to quickly apprehend the suspect without any other innocent people being injured.

I know someone will think this isn't the place for this comment.

With that said, the Mayor of Philadelphia during a press conference about this incident used it as an opportunity to state he feels there are too many guns on the streets. He said he feels that the federal government needs to do something about it.

Now we find out the gun used in this crime was a police issued firearm stolen from a home.....

If you feel my above comment doesn't belong here. I guess you would also have to agree that it never gets made if the mayor of Philadelphia doesn't start us down that road with his comments about too many guns on the streets.

Why blame ISIS loyalist, when you can blame guns? Stick to the agenda.

Claimed "im doing this in the name of ISIS."

Could be a looney tune just looking for attention. I hope that's the case as this is very scary.

I'm guessing he was radicalized in his basement via the internet.

No it belongs here. Disarm your community and the government will protect you at all times.

Disclaimer...... unless the bad guy steals the government's guns.

I think this further proves why I need the right to own a gun.

This! A thousand times, this!

Nothing from the Whitehouse still? As quick as the administration is on shootings? Hmmm...

Wonder why?

Because it was a LEO being shot, not a LEO shooting someone.

I think that's part of it, but I think there's more to it. I think the guy saying he did it in the name of Islam is another part of it and I think the president figuring out how to place the blame on the gun so he can further his agenda is the other part of it.

The WH has a certain agenda. San Bernardino came and went and I'm not even sure if anyone in Washington, remembers the recruiting station in Chattanooga being shot up.
