January 2, 201610 yr Thinking about getting a new gun, went the other day to Whitakers and looked around. Really like the feel and size of the glock 19. Anyone have one? Opinions?
January 3, 201610 yr Used to have one, bought it for my son. It's the weapon he learned to shoot with. Loved it, but the lack of a conventional safety was an issue for me. But I would bet you'll love that gun.

January 3, 201610 yr Was the concern because of his age or just in general didn't like the lack of saftey? Kind of both. I guess I prefer the actual safety on the slide. But as for a shooter, that gun was so fun and it just ate ammo without a hitch, ever. Seriously, it was just the safety for me. The Gen 4 is a great weapon. I'm getting ready to buy another 9 and I think I'm sold on the Sig 226 MK25. It's the one the SEALS use, they have literally abused it on purpose and it was their choice. 15 rd capacity and I have a pile of 9mm ammo

The counter with the sigs had too many people around it so I didn't get a chance to look at those.
January 3, 201610 yr I actually had in mind to buy the beretta m9. But after reading all the reviews I've decided against that one. Seriously if it wasn't for the safety I'd have the glock. Have you shot it?
January 3, 201610 yr I've never had a Glock but my dad immediately sold his after he bought it because of the safety.

January 3, 201610 yr Funny you mention the SEALS.....they have dropped the SIG and are now using the G19. Really? I haven't read that anywhere. But I believe it. They're fine weapons.
January 3, 201610 yr I did find this article and it seems that the Glock might be what's on the horizon. The Navy SEALs Might Have Selected A New Pistol Of Choice However, I read two others that didn't mention the Glock at all.
January 3, 201610 yr I've had a Glock of one kind or another for 20 years. You will love it, as Doc said they never jam and are an ease to maintain and take care of. I've never had a concern about the Safety thing. I grew up around revolvers so the lack of a safety didn't really ever bother me because I wasn't used to having one. Glocks are renown for NOT accidentally "Going off". The safety built into the trigger keeps it from going off unless the trigger is pulled. Gun will not fire if dropped, thrown or smacked up the side of someone's head...the trigger must be pulled.

The Glock 19 is one of the finest self defense weapons made and I actually think it not having a safety is a plus for self defense. I say that because in a self defense situation where you have a an adrenaline dump and you are scared to death, something as simple as flipping the safety off can be unusually difficult even it you have trained for it thousands of times. If I wasn't so dedicated to the 10 millimeter round in my Glock 20, a Glock 19 would be my every day carry.
