swamprat Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Got a text at halftime from my sister regarding the Noles. "They're playing like Gators."
newarkcatholicfan Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 The bottom line the better team won and they were also the better coached team.
GrantNKY Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Houston was the better team and it really wasn't close. Tom Herman is a top 10 coach in the country.
Jim Schue Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Louisville losing to those guys doesn't look so bad in hindsight, but I sure was upset at the time. Several F-bombs dropped in the car while listening on the radio.
doubledeuce Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Like I said in the update thread....one team was excited to be there, the other team was disappointed they were there.
Jumper_Dad Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Like I said in the update thread....one team was excited to be there, the other team was disappointed they were there. Like it or not, that is a fact for some teams come this time of year.
GrantNKY Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 Like I said in the update thread....one team was excited to be there, the other team was disappointed they were there. Agree. But Houston wins that game 7 or 8 times out of 10. They are just better. But I do think teams playing poorly because they are playing in a bowl lesser than what they wanted definitely happens. It probably happened today, but I don't think it would have made a difference.

If you think that is what happened today, then how the heck would you know? The first half was a train wreck, and FSU won the second half 21-17. If FSU was disappointed to be there and played poorly due to that (as you suggest), and then you add in Maguire getting hurt early which torpedoed a lot (even in coming back he looked rough, while early his passing was better), why would you place the confidence that high? FWIW, I don't even know if I believe that it was that FSU was disappointed to be there, but if you did believe that, then you have to believe that what happened in the second half may have been closer to what you would expect many of the games to be. I loathe what I term the Alabama excuse, that being that any time they lose in a non-title game bowl, they were "disinterested". I'm not making that one, but I think to declare Houston as winning this game 7-8 times out of 10 based on some of the things that happened in this game is a little over the top. I would have liked to have seen how the game goes if Maguire doesn't get hurt early. They had some good field position on those drives where Constantino had to come in, and he was utterly useless.

Houston is just better. I don't know what to tell you. FSU clearly wasn't prepared to be there, but Houston would have one anyways. They would have won by 1 TD instead of 2. That's the only difference. Maguire is a bum. He threw 4 interceptions, it didn't matter who was the QB for FSU unless Jameis was still out there.

They would have won by 1 TD instead of 2. That's the only difference. Maguire is a bum. He threw 4 interceptions, it didn't matter who was the QB for FSU unless Jameis was still out there. Maguire threw four INTs on a bum ankle. He was 5/9 for 133 yards before he went out hurt, the last of those incompletions being the play he got hurt on. That was 1/3 of his total yardage on the night, and that was 10 minutes into the game (or 1/6 of the game). If FSU had a competent backup (like, say, Golson), IMO Maguire never re-enters the game. His mobility was affected, at least one of his INTs was because he wasn't able to step into a pass where his receiver had about 8 yards on the man covering him. It made a difference. If I was going to make any excuse, it's the injury. I didn't suggest FSU as disenchanted with being there, you did. If you believe that is worth 1 TD for a team "not preapred to be there", so be it. I'd postulate that an injured QB is easily worth at least another, and that's being charitable. If you'd 6/10, I might not have pushed back (I wouldn't have agreed, but I'd have let it go). If you said 7, I might still have. 8/10? That's why I'm arguing with you.

His ankle didn't have anything to do with his head making bad choices. I shouldn't have called Magquire a bum, that was sort of classless of me. But it probably would be about 7/10 not 8/10 I'll give you that. I just think Tom Herman is a better coach than Jimbo Fisher. But that in no way is meant to be a knock on Jimbo, Herman is a hell of a coach.
PSJ Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I know the "big boys" wouldn't vote them in for recruiting purposes.. But why else wouldn't Big 12 consider adding a Houston? That area is what? the 3rd largest TV market in the country? I would think a University of Houston in the Big 12 would be a win win for everyone. Tom Herman has that program skyrocketing until a Notre Dame or an Alabama comes calling..

Please tell me you're joking? Houston MAYBE wins 4 out of 10 times. They caught FSU on a BAD day. The o-line play was bad. The QB play was bad. The game overall was BAD. Give credit to Houston, they came in prepared and ready to play, FSU on the other hand, well they just showed up.

Tom Herman can coach circles around Jimbo Fisher. They didn't catch FSU on a bad day, the caught FSU without Jameis Winston.
