It has to hurt a player if the school does not send their stats to KHSAA? I know that I'm bit of a homer here...but Brett Slushers stats are, I would guesss, very gawdy. However, none of Beechwoods stats were sent in or not listed on the state site. So, number 1: who votes these kids in?.... Do they refer to the stats listed on KHSAA? Lastly, why doesn't each school have to send their stats in?

Beechwood has apparently not reconciliated the state finals game stats into their season stats, and until they do, KHSAA will list them without Beechwoods numbers.

That answers my question. Their stats were there all year, but just not after the championship game. So the people that make the choices, for POY would have seen his stats also.

I say this with complete respect...but I dont think Slusher or Pugh were Mr. Football Finalist worthy.

 

Great, great players..no doubt... but when I think of Mr. Football I think of a guy who literally starts and is a superstar for any team in Kentucky... even Trinity or Male.

 

Truth be told the only guys I think I would put there:

Daniel- Don't think he plays QB anywhere else, but he would be a star LB wherever you asked

Baker- Best RB in KY

Hall- Best QB in KY

Burns- Best all-around ATH

 

Kinslow and Shelton are great players, but not sure I would even call them the best at their position

 

Nelson and Woods... unfortunately I wouldn't even list them Top 5 at their positions and am a bit surprised they are nominated.

I was mostly with you until you said Baker was the best RB in Ky. No he's not. Phelps from Paintsville is better even than he is. You were right on with most of the rest, and I basically made the same argument that these award lists are so subjective depending on the voter, that I can see arguments for or against players on the list and those left off.

 

But Baker is not the best RB in the state. Just, no. Quality player, and I wish him well, but he's a top 3 or 5 back state wide. There is even a segment of the Ashland fan base that believed Brown was better. I've got no dog in that fight, though. Just my opinion, nothing at all personal. I was using Pugh's numbers as an example, by the way, of how you can make an argument for someone you feel was overlooked. That's all.

Pretty impressive list. Congrats to them all. There are a couple of guys that missed the list (Ray Zuberer - Owensboro Catholic and Dee Cain - Caldwell County)

Slow down? I think you read my post wrong, Quick. I got on this thread hoping to see Slusher as a finalist. His name was not on the list. I read through all of the candidates stats and wanted to see how Bretts stats compared. I went to KHSAA to see his stats and they are not listed. I cut and pasted exactly what I saw. My question is/was ... do the people making the decision about finalist use that information on that site and if they do, does the fact that there are no stats currently for Brett, on that site, hurt him. Thats it. Someone that seemed to be in the know said that the championship game stats are not reconciled and another said that he still would not have been a finalist. That said, I would love to see his final stats. Great season.

The lack of stats for the championship (on the KHSAA) does not mean that those stats did not exist ... and doesn't mean that they were not supplied at the appropriate time.
