Riley Hall is an exceptional athlete but an even better person off the field/court. It's been an honor to see him play for the past few seasons. Three straight trips to BG under his guidance has certainly raised expectations for the Pulaski program for many years to come

Congrats to those nominated... but seems to me that there is a real discrepancy for media and nominations for awards for Louisville and going east in this state. It's a shame a kid like Ray Zuberer -Owensboro Catholic (102 Passing TD's in 2 years) didn't get nominated or even a kid like Dee Cain- Caldwell County (best "football player"- I saw play this year- including some nominated) don't get a nomination. The western part of the state (Bowling Green going west) had 3 of the 6 state champions so obviously some good football is being played. Seems like this happens all too often.

Did their coaches nominate them? I'm asking because I don't know. I know in the past some would get upset about players not winning awards, and we came to find that they were never nominated for the awards. Sad but true.

If Luke woods from whitey is worthy so is Pugh and Slusher.

Coaches don't nominate Mr. Football. I think the AP writers do. I know courier journal and the two all star teams you do.

Looking at the history of this award you have to look as the possible winner through the eyes of a scout in some terms. Since 1986 23 of the winners have played D1/FBS football, 13 out of 24 of them have had pro careers of some sort, 7 in the NFL for at least a small stint ( this excludes the 5 who are still in college).

 

Using those historical stats you pretty much know that Mr Football is going to be a kid who is an FBS talent with a pro football upside. I have not had the pleasure of watching any of these young men personally so I can't tell you who may qualify under the above mentioned criteria but some of you much smarter than I am should be able to use your knowledge and analyze just who of these young men best meets the "eye" test.

 

I also believe that is why someone like Pugh isn't on this list. He was a heck of a High School running back and might get an offer from an FCS school but like most great high school players from EKY his ceiling may be NAIA or maybe a DII/DIII. I believe most end up with NAIA because they have better ability to offer full athletic scholarships compared to none by DII and few by DII.

Seems to be a normal thing in sports in Kentucky. Most think the state stops at I-65. Wonder if Sindelar getting this award last year made an impact on nominations this season considering all the crying done on the other end of the state.
