I'm at a ufc event and just showed this video to 3 local officials and all 3 didn't hesitate. No foul. Didn't hesitate. Again, good effort but not a shot during foul. One even thought foul occurred before the motion toward basket. In the end. It comes down to the most important 3 on the floor. They made their call

I didn't get to see the shot live as I was busy chasing my 3 year old under the stands. I think that's closer to a foul on a shot than it is on the floor.

Hard to tell if the foul was intentional or not in the first video.

Not being at the game and only watching the video, I found it "curious" that fans were all looking for intentional fouls which leads me to believe it was a sloppy game.

I think some were looking for intentionals simply because one had already been called just a couple plays earlier. Perhaps their thought was, If you can call one, then why couldn't you call another.

And for sentinel, you can clearly see one official that comes from the right to make the intentional call, the one at the side line, and the one under the basket to the left, do not make the call. The one on the left, you cannot see until the very end of the video.

 

 

 

Read post #18. The one under the goal raised his hands briefly and must have dropped them equally as fast as the ref closest to the play signaled intentional. I only saw the one under the goal from my peripheral as I was watchin the ball, the call and then Walton's fans in that order. I only initially see 1 ref in video and never see all 3 unless I'm missing something.

I was seated on the Sk side of the gym close to the floor and i will tell you the intentional foul call was absolutely horrible.

Although the walton player did foul with a "tomahawk chop", she was indeed, making a play on th ball. The only thing that could of swayed the official to call intentional, was the excessive force used.

As for the "shot or on the floor foul", the call made was 100% percent correct.

One thing you cannot see in the video is the Sk player, who was about a half a step behind, fouled not only with her body but with her arm in an attempt to knock the ball loose.The Sk players arm actually had the Walton players right arm restricted which resulted in the "left handed throw.. In my honest opinion it was the officials tardy whistle that allowed the play to continue leading some to believe she was "in the act". She shot a few 3's earlier in the game, none of which were 1 handed/ left handed. However it was a smart effort on the walton players part. With the below average officiating, there was a good chance this call could have went the other way.

BTW..These are 2 very weak teams...I realize its early in the season but both of these need alottttt of work..... neither team played to win....both played to not lose!

Sounds like I agree with most on this one. The first one was tough to tell. But no question Ison was definitely in the act of shooting. Picked up her dribble, took a step and got up a shot. Super smart play

Second bolded. There is no rule that dictates shooting fouls can only be called when shot from the same hand all game. Hailey Ison shoots just about as many left handed shots as she does right.

 

First bolded. If a player shoots a left handed lay up, and the defense grabs her right arm while in the act, that is still a shooting foul.

 

Nowhere is there a foul before the shot or shooting motion....unless the official anticipated it. In that case, he was incorrect.

 

Here is what we can agree on though. The intentional was bogus. It made it go from SK, in a tie ball game, taking the ball out of bounds on the sideline with a little less time left than before, to SK now getting two free throws, making one of two, then getting the possession after that...which resulted in Walton now having to foul and give two more free throws, which SK made. If the intentional wasn't there, then the shooting foul controversy probably doesn't happen.

The intentional foul call was terrible. It was clearly a foul, but definetly not an intentional. As an official please let the players decide the game.

 

The foul on Ison was clearly on the shot. As an official if your going to have enough guts to call the intentional foul, then have enough guts to call the foul on the three point shot at half court. Ison made a very smart play to draw the foul on the shot. The question is why in the world would SK put one of their players out at half court to be in the position to make that foul. Not very smart on SK coach.

 

Lastly, if Ison and Neace are both candidates for 8th player of the year, Ison clearly won that battle going away. Wasn't even. close.

So what you are saying is, you have never seen an official wave off a made layup , and point to the floor? I always thought that meant the foul occured prior to the attempt?

And as far as your comment that Haliey Ison shoots as many shots with her left as she does with her right......while that is true...

in the paint, around the bucket... etc I think you are way out in left field if you want me or anyone else to believe she shoots 3's left handed! Seen her play a few times and dont ever recall thinking or commenting to anyone else about her ability to shoot from the perimeter left handed .

Two players involved and I'm sure when both were asked, both players versions were different! I wouldn't expect anything different!

Didn't add my 2 cents to argue ,as I don't normally argue with people who I'm sure played the game and know more about the rules than I do.

Just wanted to point out my obversations.

Here is a video of what at least half the place thought was a shooting foul. I am pretty sure even the SK players on the floor thought it was also by the look of their body language.

 

The first part of the video will show the play just before the one in question where Walton inbounded and there was an SK "foul on purpose" since they were up 3 and had a foul to give. Just keep watching and eventually Walton will inbound it again on the sideline.

 

You all can decide. I can tell you, if you haven't seen already, its going to be hard to convince me that Ison was not shooting, especially when she knew that they were going to foul her for free throws instead of give her a 3 point attempt.

 

A shooting foul puts a kid who was the state's leading free throw shooter last year at 90% on the line.

Well after watching the film and after reading all of this I think this is accurate to say. Simon Kenton 43 Walton Verona 41. Sk just made 1 more smart play and won the game officials make bad calls but you can't put it all on them play the next play and move on. Like I said in a previous thread games in December doesn't decide your season move on.

Interesting perspective as I see that as an official projecting what he thinks shot form should look like. No dog in this fight but as fan of sport I've looked at this video several times..player is crossing half court with shot motion that begins with the legs ..as most would if stepping in to a one handed Half Court shot . Almost the same motion as layup but stepping into launch the half court. The ref opinion is the one that matters but you could have 50 refs viewing the film say it's not a shot and that won't change the fact she should have been shooting 3 free throws..again no dog in the fight.
