I know Simpson for WV had 13, and most of them seemed to be huge and timely. This included two three pointers to close the 2nd quarter that helped cut the lead to 1 by half time. She gave a huge momentum boost for Walton that was desperately needed before the half.

 

WV's Ison had 22, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.

 

As Dixie posted earlier SK's Harmeyer had 14. She got hot early for SK and helped them build a lead, but cooled of a little as the game went on.

 

If anyone else has any to add, I'd like to see them. When SK was able to manipulate SK's 1-3-1, Meyer was getting some easy buckets point blank. How many did she end up with?

 

And I will add this. No way I'm holding Niece's 2 points against her. I attribute some to Walton's game plan and execution and perhaps much of it to her having "just one of those nights". The kid is a gifted and dangerous ball player with a huge future. I'm glad Walton isn't having to face her the next game out.

Totally agree with the last comments. This team (SK) is still in that "getting used to" part of their development. One also could attribute some of the rough patches this team seems to go thru at times to their youth. There is 3 sophomores and 2 juniors starting, and lately the 1st two off the bench are 8th graders.Harmeyer is learning a new coaching philosophy, Meier played only her 4th regular season game Saturday after rehabbing all spring and summer from 2 surgeries, Buckner is in her 2nd varsity season 1st as a full time starter (for SK), and IMO with all due respect and admiration Niece I think at times puts a lot of pressure on herself to perform at the level she is capable of playing up to. I also wouldn't want to be the team Ms. Niece plays next. As I stated at the beginning of the season, when this team starts firing on all cylinders it's going to be ugly...for their opponents. All that being said, I have nothing but the upmost respect for Walton. Ison and Simpson are 2 of the best in the region, and also great kids from wonderful families. I fully expect this to be the matchup in the district finals and possibly the regional finals. As you and I spoke about before the game 7's, I hoped the game would be decided by the players and coaches and not the refs..but as is the case in a lot of 8th region games sometimes..... But it is what it is and we all move on..

I am not saying this is the case in this situation, because I have no idea. I am just saying that, many times, a young person is sensing a lot of pressure to perform for acceptance, and that is a problem. There is more to life than basketball, and many times, all a kid needs is a hug, and "I love you just the way you are." Sorry to sound sappy, but these girls are not adults yet, and they are still trying to secure their worth, without having to prove themselves. Sometimes its nice to not let them have to earn it.

I totally agree with your comments. As far as my districts and regionals comment..I person can hope!! LOL. As far as Niece's situation, that was just my opinion.. I know she has a great support environment from home with an awesome family. I think with the way the college coaches are actively pursuing these kids at younger ages these days has some to do with the pressure they feel. It's a 2 edged sword because I think it gives incentive to know someone is interested but also a lot of pressure depending on the player. And yes, I think you're right sometimes there is pressure to perform for acceptance ( my kid). We have told our daughter many, many times as I'm sure you have yours too that we didn't care if she scores 1 pt or 100 in a game, how much we love her and how proud we are of her.

That was Jay Kepperling and Ryan Morris. They have been officiating varsity basketball in the 8th region at least since 2006 when I started following this particular region. I do not know the other guy's name but he has been doing varsity games for a very long time.

 

I would take Morris and Kepperling over about 2/3of the other 8th region officials.

I'm not sure why anyone has a beef with this crew. I think they did a good job overall and had the guts to make the right calls.

The intentional foul in the end was a bad call, it was a foul no doubt but probably shouldn't have been called intentional. Resulted in a 1 point advantage to SK in the end so I'm not sure it really impacted the outcome. But you can go into the constant moving screens, phantom fouls, hard contact no fouls all night as well. This crew was really consistent at being inconsistent

I actually don't understand the relevancy of the SK parent comment. My wife says things all the time that I have to explain to her the actual rule for that situation. That doesn't make her right.

The call in question was made and it was made correctly. As I stated before, I haven't talked with and official nor have I ever been in a discussion with any that would have called that situation a foul. I'm assuming that is what you are referring too. Bottom line, I think Clyde explained it the best it could be explained and it just simply is not a shot.

I would say that WV as well as SK should focus on the number of other unforced errors or decisions that had an equal impact to the overall outcome.

You are 100% incorrect in what I was pointing out or referring to. Talk about someone who needs to let the call and the shot go. That discussion was over yesterday.

Clyde, I think you misunderstood the question. I think what sentinal is saying is , and I also witnessed it, it was an offensive player "flopping " in an attempt to draw fouls on Sks bigs as they were crashing the boards on a wv shot. Dangerous situation as bodies were hitting the floor after tripping over "flopper".Good way to end someones season just to get sks bigger girls in foul trouble! Guess its hard to call if not directly seen by official.....

 

Block if defender is not in LGP. By rule, faking being fouled is a Technical Foul.
