Mercer County 103 Casey County 66

Featured Replies

Will Hager had 28.

Trevon Faulkner had 25.

Dylan James had 23.

Mercer County is averaging 80 points a game through 5 games.

I expected a Mercer County win...I didn't expect a 103-66 Mercer County win. Ouch.

That's a lot of offense! Shooting percentage had to be pretty good to get to 100 unless Casey played no D at all.

I was there for 2 and 1/2 quarters and Casey County's defense was non-existent. I also think they tried to run with Mercer County and that was a mistake.

Casey is no slouch, especially at home. They are likely in the 5 to 6 range in the 12th region, at least according to many. They lost at Southwest by 12 in their last game and were leading after 3 quarters.

Mercer has so many weapons and they play very unselfish basketball. I don't think that people realize just how much better Dylan James makes this Titan team.

Mercer County scored 103 points and Malik Dow totaled 1 point.

People doubt just how good they are though.

Carry on.....

Tough tough night for the Rebs. Mercer is a great team top to bottom, got lots of offensive weapons, and I see no reason as to why they couldn't make a legit run at Rupp. They play very unselfish, and as a basketball fan you can't help but appreciate the way they play the game (even though they trounced my Rebs). I can only hope that we learn something from this and use it to grow more as a team. We played scared tonight. Hoping for a better outcome tomorrow night against Pulaski.

Congrats to Mercer on the 37 point win.

Mercer appears to be a legit Top 5 team.

The Casey County concession stand sells Big Red soda.

You guys are the real MVPs. Word up.

Malik Dow totaled 1 point.

That's the only stat you need to know. 37 point beat down and he had 1, holy cow...

PP92 who in the 12th matches up best against them, now that you watched them?

I've been watching most of the kids on this team since they were 7-8-9 years old. Watching Trevon grow from a 6 year old who used his left hand so much you'd have thought he didn't have a right arm into the player he has become has truly been a privilege. The seniors and juniors always had a buzz around them that they would have a special team one day once they got to high school. They began as the Mercer Cyclones and they stormed through the elementary school AAU scene with resounding success. Once they got to middle school some moved on to Hoop Dreams and others began to excel in other sports. Once they got to high school some quit playing, some still play and new pieces were added to the nucleus of successful pieces from the Cyclones. These boys have been preparing for this year for a long long time. They've gone through a coaching change, personnel change and life changes. In other words, for someone who isn't connected to the Mercer County program I think I may know this group of boys better than most outsiders. It's hard to say who can match up with them without yet seeing what some of the other 12th Region teams have to offer. The addition of Dylan James gives them a tall and beefy player who can knock down threes like nobody's business. He gives Mercer County an element they didn't have last year. He and Will Hager looked like they have been playing ball together for years. And then you have Trevon.

Mercer County has size...(I think their shortest starter is 6'2"), athleticism, good coaching, good defense and depth. I think they are a matchup nightmare and I'll leave it up to people smarter than myself to try figure out how to beat them. About all I can offer up is that if you are going to get into a fast tempo paced game with them then you better be able to play defense. They can score in many different ways and they will score a ton of points off of forced turnovers. You better force them to play a slow down half court game, you better have size to battle on the boards with them, you better have above average guards and your defense better be disciplined. If you don't have all of that then you'll get beat.

When he left Sheldon Clark I posted many times how good this kid was and how this made Mercer a real contender for the state title, but got few replies.

After seeing Christian County, Owen County and Taylor County, I would put Mercer number 1 or number 2 in the state right now (Havent seen Bowling Green yet). They have a real chance to win the whole thing.
