Not that I know of. But the gripe threads about the finals schedule being moved around found a lot of people complaining vociferously about it, like WKU somehow planned it this way, and suggesting other locations — such as EKU — as a solution.

 

I now know, however, that it was less about the inconvenience of the schedule being shifted than it was about the inconvenience of having to drive a little farther than they'd like.

I haven't seen any complaining in this thread. A few of us have said EKU is more desireable because it is closer to us, but nobody was even negative that I can see.

 

Your last paragraph is just make believe, IMO. I know you like pretending to know what all the rest of us are thinking but on this one you are making a huge leap. Do you really think anyone was complaining about the fouled up schedule as a cover because they were really mad about an extra hour or two of driving to get to WKU? That's your story?

The three-story structure will house a new football locker room and training facility on the ground floor. The upper levels will include stadium and club level seating (which will boost capacity by about 4,000 seats), concession stands and restrooms, said Mark Sandy, interim vice president for development and athletics director. Also from the one article, it says the stadium now will hold 20,000 before renovation, but that they will actually be downsizing to between 15,000 - 20,000 but increasing the quality. Am I reading that right?

I think the current renovation will take it to 20-22k and then there might be renovations down the road leaving them with a more modern 15-20k seat stadium. That's how I interpreted it.

The reason I ask is that article is over a year old, August 2014, and it states the construction is to begin by early 2015 in order to allow all to be in place by 2016.

And another question: How do we know this exact scenario — or something similar — won't happen when EKU is hosting? If they stay in I-AA, there's the chance they keep winning in the playoffs and would have to shuffle the state finals schedule. And if they move up to I-A, then there's a chance they're good enough to host the conference finals for whatever conference they end up in.

 

EKU does not fix the scheduling problems we saw this year. Please stop acting like it would just because it cuts 45 minutes off your drive time to BG.

 

Chances are if EKU moves up then they would probably be in the MAC which has a neutral site title game or they would be in the Sun Belt which does not have a title game. IF and only if they move up the scheduling issue would be non existent for at least a few years. Like you said if they stay in the FCS then it's no different than playing at WKU.

The Hearald Leader article said renovations should hopefully start in 90-120 days. So 3-6 months. I'm thinking completion might be a stretch by the start of the 2016 season.

In fairness I only see folks saying we like the drive time better. Has anyone said it would fix the WKU/Conference USA issue?

 

Richmond is a 30 minute drive from my house so I'd love it there. I'd go to more games. I love it in BG as well and have zero issues with them staying in BG.

But for people who were already frustrated about the drive to BG — and there are lots of them — it's awfully easy to add to that frustration with one more inconvenience, such as the schedule being shuffled for the finals. I'm shocked that you would dismiss this so easily.

They most definitely would. I feel like more people were griping about the drive more than anything else. Even before the change they were griping about it being in BG because of the drive. After the schedule change it just gave them one more thing to whine about.

I'd be much more likely to make the trip to Richmond than to Bowling Green if my teams weren't playing. Much closer and a better drive.

Was this AD around during the time when EKU reluctantly hosted the All A Classic basketball? Because I got the impression EKU and Richmond didn't much care to be hosting that event.

What is the All A Classic, I am not familiar with this?

I'd like to see it alternate between WKU and EKU.

Unless EKU finally does move forward with construction, the stadium isn't nearly as nice as WKU. Hate to say it but it's true. Heck, Austin Peay now has better facilities than EKU does for football.

Small-school state basketball tournament. Not an official KHSAA event, but I would bet that the only state events that outdraw it are the Sweet 16 and the football finals. Maybe the baseball state tournament, but I doubt it.
