Well, we finally get that team that dresses 98 kids.. If I have heard that once, I've heard it 100 times.. Fortunately, only 11 at a time is allowed on the field and I really like the 11 that Mayfield puts out there, especially on the defensive side of the ball.. Desales is also a great defensive team.. I feel next weeks game will be very similar to this weeks.. Whichever team can make the fewest mistakes and capitalize on the other teams miscues, will win it.. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 7-3 type game..

Kennemore had a great game. Bright was stymied for 3 quarters, and then it looked like the OC defensive line ran out of gas. So much for the theory of Mayfield playing 11 guys both ways, and getting tired.

 

The OC line was much better than I thought going into the game. They played their hearts out. #34 Boarman was a beast. #3 Morton was fast, he dropped a couple of passes that could have made a huge impact on the game. Great game OC!

I also want to say great job by the coaching staff. OC really sold out on stopping the run, almost daring us to pass. I thought the right mix was called, enough runs to keep them honest and forcing them to stay committed to stopping. Great recognition to not kick to number 3. And finally, just an outstanding defensive gameplan and execution. Finally, I said in the pre-game thread that when I get a bit drunk, we always seem to win and I am proud to say I did my part.

Keep up the good work MayfieldFan! You should probably go into a seven day coma for next Friday's game. :wideyed:

Outstanding Football game! Pretty sure the officials had more yards than either offense in this one. Both defenses came to play. Happy for the W, but much respect for the Aces. If these two teams played 10 times, I believe it would be a 5-5 split. We don't see teams as well coached and disciplined as ours very often. OCath played solid fundamental football, making us earn every yard we got. It wasn't that our offense played bad, just that their D played that well. With that said, our D stepped it up tonight as well. Knowing how potent the Aces offense was, I was really nervous about this game, but the D played lights out, led by Hurt, who played with tremendous heart and determination. Would like to see the stats from this one. On to the next big hurdle when Desales comes to town. Go Big Red!

I think one factor you have to look at was field position. Catholic was playing on their own side most of the night.

 

Mayfield played great and made a lot of plays. Good Luck to then next week vs DeSales.

 

As for the Aces, keep your heads up you played well. I have a feeling this might be the rivalry for a while with OC hosting next year.

These 2 teams were a mirror image of each other.. Lanny, Mayfields statistician, made that statement at halftime and he was right on with that statement.. Zuberer may have been a little better than Arnett and Bright may have been a little better than Gardner, but, they played very similar to each other. Both lines were undersized, but, hit hard and played with a lot of determination.

Hats off to Mayfield. They played a great game and just made more plays and made fewer mistakes. I thought both defenses played lights out.

 

OCs offense just looked off tonight. Have to give the Mayfield defense the majority of the credit. I hate to be the one to say this but OC missed WR Luke Payne more than I hoped they would.

 

Good luck next week against DeSales. Look forward to good rivalry between both of these well coached teams.

Congrats to the Cardinals on a very good win. Good luck next week against one of the biggest challenges Mayfield has faced in the past few years. My Beechwood Tigers and the Cardinals are once again playing in the semi-finals, but this time on different fields. And the biggest difference is this time I will be rooting for a Cardinals win. Until this post, not a single word from either side about officiating, as it did not hand Mayfield the game or cost OCath. I think this shows how even the two teams were. Both well coached and great team defensive speed (OCath line and Mayfield LBs). As a Mayfield fan, thankful #3 didnt get many touches from the HB position.

 

With that said, sometimes you scratch your head when you watch a crew call a game. Even in a game that has bad calls a good crew still provides a good flow to the game just by the precise manner in which they make calls, mark off penalties and make decisions. This crew looked more like a crew you would expect calling a Fulton City - Murray blowout game.

 

AND IN PARTICULAR, the back judge missed 3 pass interference calls, 2 of which were major blown calls (against both teams). First, Kennemore gets bumped early in the game going across the middle (no call). Secondly, Kennemore goes down the right side and is not touched or close to being touched, ball is overthrown and the official throws the flag on OCath. Thirdly, on 4th down in the fourth, OCath goes down the middle, no contact, ball overthrown five yards and the hanky man arrives again.
