^Here we go, good grief.

Until this post, not a single word from either side about officiating, as it did not hand Mayfield the game or cost OCath. I think this shows how even the two teams were. Both well coached and great team defensive speed (OCath line and Mayfield LBs). As a Mayfield fan, thankful #3 didnt get many touches from the HB position.

 

With that said, sometimes you scratch your head when you watch a crew call a game. Even in a game that has bad calls a good crew still provides a good flow to the game just by the precise manner in which they make calls, mark off penalties and make decisions. This crew looked more like a crew you would expect calling a Fulton City - Murray blowout game.

 

AND IN PARTICULAR, the back judge missed 3 pass interference calls, 2 of which were major blown calls (against both teams). First, Kennemore gets bumped early in the game going across the middle (no call). Secondly, Kennemore goes down the right side and is not touched or close to being touched, ball is overthrown and the official throws the flag on OCath. Thirdly, on 4th down in the fourth, OCath goes down the middle, no contact, ball overthrown five yards and the hanky man arrives again.

 

You are wrong about Kennemore not being touched running down the right side. The defender did have a hand on him but I did think it should have been a no call.

Mayfield was penalized twice as much as OC. OC got their calls too like the 4th down pass interference .

Bottom line too many mistakes by OC. If Mayfield had capitalized on them all it might have been ugly.

All in All I thought OC was a good team and played tough.

You totally misunderstood the post. It was TOTALLY 100% directed at the back judge and his partners. Big games deserve big game crews (channeling LV McGinty and some of the better old officials). Thankful that NO ONE said that officiating affected or decided the outcome of the game. My post did not do that. And, thankful that the game was not decided by them. Just pointing out that the officiating crew and one in particular was not top notch. And the very questionable pass interference calls went both ways. Nothing more, nothing less. Sorry you somehow think I took away from the quality of the game. Not my intention.

I got what you said slammer. I felt the same way. There were some calls in the secondary that left me scratching my head, but never felt they decided the outcome of the game because they went both ways. There were several flags thrown, but felt most were the right calls and they did not influence the outcome of the game.

Exactly. No problem with the holding calls. I would hold those quick D Linemen too.

Question. What was the bigger hit? Hurts slam of #3 or the block on Bright's reverse field run?

Aces you had a great year! I really enjoyed keeping up with Team Nintendo from afar. No shame losing to a team that has lost once on its home field since 2008.

Refereeing as a whole is a hard job but I don't think the crews are as good as they used to be.

Every crew will have a weak spot.

Every game has head scratching calls... I've gotten used to it.

OC came in on a Murray High, literally! Very good team, reminded me a lot of the Cards running similar stuff and being smallish but quick and strong. To me the difference was the Cardinals ability to keep the field flipped despite not letting our punter kick to #3 and avoiding him forced our punter to have to go short. The Cards were just a little better on both offense and defense and special teams with the weapon we have in our kicker/punter. That says a lot about the defense as OC was the highest scoring team in the state. The offense also was great, OC decided to take away the run and Arnett and his receivers stepped in and outplayed the highly touted OC QB and receivers.
