Another Example As To Why We Need to KILL the Death Penalty

Who says the meals have to be hot? Who says they have to have TV? Well, maybe the 700 Club 24-7.

I feel like I am in Bizarro world agreeing with Pops and disagreeing with Cap278...:idunno: I cannot support the death penalty though. Besides not being able to correct innocent mistakes by the process or corrupt prosecutors, I also do not feel it can ever be administered fairly...ie: that is the rich guy who can hire top flight defense attorneys can avoid the death penalty where the poor guy getting the public defender handling 187 cases is not going to get anywhere near the same quality legal representation...

There's hope for you yet!

What can I say Pops...you grow on me...like a toe fungus:wave:

In all seriousness, even though I don't agree with you politically often, you are one of my favorite posters on here. Heck, you like golf...you cannot be all bad!!

You're not the first person to tell me that...:)

Nothing wrong with some counseling.

Effectiveness, I think, has been proven to be non-existent. The same crimes are still being committed even with the death penalty on the table as a deterrent.

Agreed.

There is a reason organized criminals don't target civilians, police or judges...they will tell you that it is because of the DP.

It of course isn't a 100% deterrent nor has any punishment in history been for any crime.

I have no problem with most criminals serving life in Prison...I also have no problem with some that are the worst of the worst getting the DP either. But for anyone to get the DP the case has to be air tight IMO.

The prosecutor in the linked case told everyone it was an airtight case. People lie. Innocent people die for no reason.

So it's more costly than life in prison. It's not an effective deterrent. We put innocent people to death occasionally.

So why do we still do it?

Every prosecutor says that in every cases they try. I'm talking about cases where there is no question...movie theater shooter and others caught in the act.

I have seen a couple or so bad prosecutors in my time. They are trying to win and if they are not completely ethical they have a huge conflict of interest.

What do you mean when you say occasionally?

What do you mean when you say occasionally?

Does it matter how I define it?

Sometimes. Once in a while. Sporadically. Intermittently.
