Another Example As To Why We Need to KILL the Death Penalty

Featured Replies

I totally support the death penalty. A case that needs revisited because of the stacks of evidence show a faulty verdict doesn't sway that for me. Something needs to change in this case, not the death penalty IMO. Probably not popular, but it's all mine.

I completely agree with you. Especially in a case such as the link I attached. No need for people like this on this earth. Forgive em, and send em home early!

Plain and simple you can't correct any mistakes once someone is put to death.

In theory I support the death penalty but I think life in prison is a better overall option in the majority of cases.

It's hard for me to see any way that we, as a society, benefit from putting people to death.

Anyone? Anyone at all?

Waiting on someone to say that it's cheaper to put them to death than let them serve a lifte time in prison? But then I thought I heard this wasn't true, which doesn't make sense to me.

I honestly wasn't. I'm seriously just trying to find a benefit of killing someone. How does it help us as a society?

As for the cost, because of the appeals process, it costs more on average to put a person to death than it does for them to live their life in prison.

Agreed on slam dunks. How do you word that to ensure the innocent non-slam dunks do not get put to death?

Wow, I wish I knew. There will likely be a few politicians who are less intelligent than those of us posting in this thread that would hash those parameters out. And that's scary in and of itself.

UKMF asked and I'll ask: What's the value of the death penalty to the US ?

Is a person sentenced to death is allotted more appeals?

I believe so yes, and for good reason IMO.

It is hard to make case for our government putting anyone to death, especially when we point to (and call out) extremist around the world putting others to death, I think it makes America come across hypocritical.

One argument.

How about practicality or effectiveness ?

Effectiveness, I think, has been proven to be non-existent. The same crimes are still being committed even with the death penalty on the table as a deterrent.

I get your point but in this country you can only get the death penalty in a case in which others have died or in cases of treason I believe...in some of those countries you can get the death penalty for armed robbery, drug trafficking, rape, pedophilia, sodomy, adultery, apostasy and kidnapping among other things...so I don't think it's quiet as hypocritical as you do.

There is a reason organized criminals don't target civilians, police or judges...they will tell you that it is because of the DP.

It of course isn't a 100% deterrent nor has any punishment in history been for any crime.

I have no problem with most criminals serving life in Prison...I also have no problem with some that are the worst of the worst getting the DP either. But for anyone to get the DP the case has to be air tight IMO.

I don't disagree with your personal view, I am speaking more about how the rest of the world perceives America. I think it is hard for America to call out ISIS when we put people to death too. All that others are going to remember is America kills their own, at least with ISIS they are killing the "enemy." In the world of public opinion some people probably think what we do is worse.

I just think if we want to be the leader in this world we need re-examine issues like the death penalty.
