Body camera footage shows suspect ramming police officer's vehicle

Local officials are indeed setting policy. DOJ gives recommendations. Local police can follow or not follow.

But what do those recommendations mean in the grand scheme of things is my point.

Not sure how else to say it Clyde...No.

You mentioned it here. That's why I mentioned you.

I don't think you are a liar.

I don't think you made it up.

Clear?

Gotcha. Seemed odd - sort of like saying "Clyde stated that the state law says official drinking age is 21."

A wild guess but I'd say they base their recs on studies of all police and make general recommendations. My assumption is a local force's exposure is quite limited and this may give them better info to make policy decisions.

Do the Feds pull money from those that don't agree with the guidelines?

Not sure of many cases where shooting into a fleeing vehicle is necessary.

Although the supreme court did just rule in favor of a Trooper who did just that recently. The trooper was being sued for excessive force for shooting into a moving vehicle of a fleeing suspect who had threatened to kill any police officer he saw if they didn't terminate their pursuit. He tried disabling the vehicle by shooting it and instead killed the driver.

We can move past it now. I'll keep this in mind next time and won't mention you anymore.

DOJ does have the power to prosecute officers that they deem did something wrong in violation of Federal Laws...so I think what the DOJ right or wrong is something that officers and departments need to be aware of. We all know that if a case goes viral the DOJ sends in the FBI to see if they can jump in and get a piece of the prosecution.

My only concern in that video was for the officer getting out of his vehicle. I'd much rather the car take the majority of the impact.

So here's the link I found that showed the impact. WOW!

I do not think the guidelines I referenced in the other thread would apply here. They seemed to be talking about shooting into fleeing vehicles.

This is NUTS.

Yes she is crazy. I watched the initial video twice and could not figure out what happened. Then I saw the ramming. I to am surprised he wasn't killed or hurt badly.

I see nothing the officers did wrong here.

I'd say they showed considerable restraint after that nut job rammed the officer's cruiser.

I read he was going to deploy a spike strip, but it was clearly too late

I have no issue with the way the officers handled this situation. I'm glad they were okay. Totally different situation than the officers that needlessly killed the kid in Louisiana.

That is crazy. I can't believe the officer was able to get up.

Can they give the death penalty for attempted murder?

Yes obviously as is the case with most videos we watch nowadays. There had to have been a lot going on. If I see a guy speeding up and coming at me I hope I'm not having to jump out of my vehicle to confront him. Lucky fella.
