Covington Catholic 3 Henry Clay 0

Center ref may have not "missed anything" but he sure did point in the wrong direction a lot of times. Explain the 13 fouls by cch Vs 3 fouls by HC. In a relatively close game until the last 12-15 minutes and a clean game, fouls not reflective. And from where I was sitting the HC player should have received a yellow card for blatantly running into the cch keeper.

I'm sorry you're biased. "Running into the goalie" was a 50/50 ball. Keeper should come out stronger or eventially he'll get injured. Also CCH was a lot chipier than HC not getting the ball on a lot of the challenges. Where HC continually won the ball in their tackles.

Congrats to Cov Cath, it was a well deserved win and title.

Only issue I have is with the players elected to the All-Tournament team. Romes and Darpel were well deserved. They shut out Fern Creek, and Henry Clay and held Trinity to one goal. Day, although he is a great player, is he really the MVP? Day had a pk saved and a 1-on1 with the keeped saved in the final. This doesn't exactly scream MVP.

If anyone I thought it should have been Lamb. 2 goals with 1 assist against Fern Creek and 2 goals with 1 assist in the state final. He was involved in all the goals Cov Cath had in the final but can't get any love from his coaches for the all-tournament team.

Congrats to the Colonels on an historic and dominating season. New school records for victories, goals scored and most shutouts and of course, now a state title. A veteran, seasoned, senior lead team that didn't wilt under a lot of expectations before the season began.

Regarding the game, as anyone could see, CCH was flat footed in the first 10 minutes or so and only a great defensive effort kept the score at 0-0. Henry Clay was really dominating play at that point. CCH finally got more of the ball and at about the 15 minute mark Lamb slid one nicely across to Litzler who buried it convincingly. Pandemonium in the huge and vocal CCH cheering section and that really lit a fire for the Colonels. As the half wore on, CovCath got more and more of the ball, even though HC was still playing very well. Late in the half, a great combination play with Litzler and Lamb resulted in Lamb in on goal and another good finish. CCH was outshot in the first half but made them count. CCH briefly switched to 4-5-1 for about 4-5 minutes but did not stick with it long.

In the second half, CCH could just taste it as the half wore on and you could see that as they got more and more possession and quite frankly just wore HC down and out physically. I can't imagine that HC has seen a team with the overall speed and athleticism that CCH has and in the end, CCH outshot HC 12 to 11 I believe. When Day had the PK stopped that was a downer and seemingly a bad omen but CCH just kept up the attacks and the dagger finally came via a great individual effort by Lamb. Day and Wessels, while not showing in any stats, did well to neutralize a very good midfield for HC and to get Rose off the ball as much as possible. For the record, I agree w/ the all tourney selections for CCH. While Day missed the PK, he was the straw that stirred the drink all year and in the tournament for CovCath. Darpel and Romes were at the center of a defense that quite frankly is the best ever seen in N. Ky. in my opinion. While the HC defense was good, as the confidence grew for CCH, the HC defense really started to wilt under the CovCath attack.

Way to represent NKY!!!!!

Congrats CCH!

Stepover, I'm wondering if you finally got an answer to the question (see below) you asked about 3 weeks ago before regionals started? Calling out a team sometimes helps provide extra motivation so thanks for that. I'd say it's been asked and answered wouldn't you?

"The big question in my head is will Cov Cath choke again?"

At least 15 rows of 16 boys, and that is a conservative and very quick count. HC showed up with about 3 rows of 15 kids. I was shocked and disappointed.

Of course, the packed stadium (one side) was 80% CovCath fans, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Not an official count, but CCH may have had more fans show up at the Bru Burger Bar before the game, than HC had in the stands......next time we have to negotiate a kick back......over 300 arrived for burgers and "soda." .....and that was just one restaurant.

Also a special thanks to the Ft. Wright Police who gave the bus the escort out to the expressway and then met it on the way back and gave it the full siren and light escort ! Pretty cool.

CCH Community and NKY Soccer Community ROCKS !!!!
