It may be that the amount caused by humans, even a small amount, may be enough to throw things out of whack. Since we cannot control nature, why not work to control what we can? The risk is enough that we should make the effort. imo.

Has anyone considered that if Uncle Al is right, that the US might not be the problem? Brazil is stripping their jungles. India continues to grow. And the People's Republic of China is polluting their country at a record pace.

We have more automobiles on the road than any other country, and if I'm not mistaken we also have the largest industrial capacity of any others. Combine that with the other stuff you mention, and cumulatively we're all guilty. It probably wasn't as bad in the past when we were the only ones so heavily industrialized and mobile. But add the explosive growth in the aforementioned countries and things get scary — to me, anyway.

I heard today that regardless of what we in the US do, within 10 years China alone will cause emissions to be double what they are now.

So, we should just shrug our shoulders and not worry about it? 'Cuz that's the impression I get from some of you righties. I have enough breathing problems as it is when the air quality is bad — and this is two years after I quit smoking. Shouldn't we at least do what we can to clean up our little part of the world? I'm not calling for draconian restrictions on heavy industry or for everyone to go out and buy a bike, but at the same time everyone can do a little something to help be part of the solution, rather than scoffing at the problem cavalierly as though there's no problem at all.

that's why we took out the coal and wood burner and went all electric heating. every little bit helps, if enough do their little bit.

Of course the Earth is getting warmer. It's the laws of thermodynamics. Eventually, the Earth and the Sun will be the same temperature and life will cease to exist here. Of course that's a loong way away, but the Earth is going to get warmer.

I'm of the mind set that nature heals itself. If you go back through some of the links I provided, these scientists are basically saying just that. I tend to agree with them. This world has been through a lot more ecology wise then man has put her through since the industrial age began. She's always healed herself, and I believe she always will.

However, I don't mind us doing things to help make the air quality better, I think we have been doing so for years. You need to worry more about China and other countries doing their bit if you're that concerned.

I would say its more like the earth cleanses itself every so often of undesiable species (i.e. dinosaurs) so other species can advance. Maybe its our turn to hit the bricks. :eek:

Does that help? While your not burning the coal, the local electric company is burning coal to generate the electricity you are now using.
