That is where we differ. Because of the dominance of Trinity and St. X for the past 10 years+, there have only been two title threat programs in 6A. Then occasionally some other team comes along and is able to compete. Title threat and good are different program categories IMO.

 

Most of the year I'd agree with that distinction, but play-offs are here and I (and I suspect many of my fellow T fans) view teams within the context of a title hunt. I also think you're undervaluing Male a bit. An OT loss to Trinity last year is the only thing that kept them from winning state, in my opinion.

There are ways to compete. I just get tired of the same ole excuses of why we "can't" compete. It's kinda just accepted and I can't stand that. That's not just SK, that's all of NKy 6a. I understand it's a challenge, but we tend to hope we get an easy route to the finals and then just getting to the finals achieves our goals.

 

I don't have the answer or solution, but a good start would be to quit telling our kids you're playing for second place every year.

I don't believe kids roaming the halls in Alexandria, Edgewood, Florence, Union, Burlington or Independence believe that they are striving to reach the finals only and have no shot with any team from Jeff Co.

So I have a question because I'm not educated on it but the way I understand it Louisville public schools participate in busing. Is that correct and if it is doesn't that change the types of players that some of these schools have? IMO that is just as screwy as open enrollment if not more screwy because a guy from Louisville was telling me that the schools get to pick and choose who gets bused where? Is this correct?

Open enrollment in Kenton County, if that is what you are referencing, is not what many might think. Simon Kenton is at capacity and not accepting outside of district students. Dixie is really close. Scott has openings. So, yes, you can transfer from DH or SK to Scott. Can a Scott kid go to DH or SK? Maybe at DH but no at SK.

Is that new at SK and Dixie for next year because I know of quite a few kids in all grades who open enrolled this year? Secondly, I am in NKY but I am not familiar with Louisville schools. Just going off of what I heard. If those numbers are correct, then that's one county compared to 3. What if you add the other counties close, like Oldham and others. Then how many options are there? And secondly, would be agree there are more competitive option than in NKY. Meaning more competition to attract the best athletes? I mean if they all went to X and T (like everyone thinks), then how does Male, Manual, Central, Desales stay good. And then you have the few schools here and there that have good teams like Butler, Fern Creek, etc. I know what folks are saying, but there are private schools within every class and other compete with them. I'm not saying it's not a challenge, but my goodness, it feels like our NKY kids are defeated from birth! One of these schools is going to have to build something to compete or deal with what we have.

 

As far as enrollment, isn't SK up near the top and don't others have enrollment limits as well. I know they are below Male, SC, T and X, but not so much that enrollment difference should equal domination. They are close enough to compete.

 

And why do kids like to go to X and T. Did they just wake up one day and say they are powerhouses or did they build it and now it attracts the athletes? Hate to say it, but if you build it, they will come! But that takes years! Not just a few successful seasons (which are questionable about the real amount of success). SK "may" be on their way, but they have to find a way to make believers out of the other athletes before kids are transferring to your school for football. Also, academics is part of that attraction. I have no idea where SK falls in that area, but if you look at the schools that get the most transfers, it's not only for the sports. Families are much more willing to make sacrifices and transfer is a kid will get a top rate education. Not in all circumstances, but sure makes the decision easier!

You don't think they hear what parents say and contribute to the excuses? They may not tell you that, but I bet deep down they don't believe they can beat them. That's all they hear..."you just can't compete with those schools". What would you expect them to believe. Instead of telling me that I'm wrong, tell me what makes you think they truly feel they can beat them in this day and age. Where would that confidence come from. Don't take that wrong. this is not a SK thing. It's a NKY thing. Until our teams get out and start REALLY challenging themselves in the regular season, they won't be prepared. That takes years of challenging themselves and sticking with it. You will absolutely take some lumps, but that's not always a bad thing!

 

And I know your stance and I agree. SK has risen from nothing. That's a great story and I agree with you. But several things contributed to that, like the population growth. But at some point you have to quit saying they are still building and have arrived. I think they have "arrived" as a good program in NKY, but that's as far as they've gotten so far. Every year you talk about where they've come from. But are they ever going to be any better than what the recent history tells us about them. Let's face it...NKY has really had a Cake walk to the finals the last 3-5 years and only one team has even made it to the finals. So when you're not even facing T and X, then you can't use that as a reason you can't be successful. I don't think there is anyone on this board that wouldn't agree that a NKY team has made it if they made it to the finals and was even competitive. That would be a sign. But that hasn't happened, even with the cake walk to the finals.

 

Again, it's reality. I want to cheer for a NKY in the finals and see a great game. But I just don't see it happening until we start to change the culture and actually believe we can win.

Call me when a 6a school from NKY is still playing vs the varsity in the second half in BG. Trinity could go undefeated every year too if they scheduled like your boys do. Same with Male/St X and Scott County. The choose to sacrifice that unblemished record by scheduling tough to prep for what matters.

Seem to remember beating St.X 37-13 earlier this year right before week one. Guess that was just plain dumb luck on SK's part. It couldnt have possibly been that we were a better team than them...And as for the last time Sk went to the State finals, we upset Manual and Male before losing to a very much superior Trinity. On any ginen friday anthing is possible. Thats why we play the games instead of just voting a champion.
