Even if that happens, as an 8th grader, she can still go somewhere else for her Freshman year without penalty. The question to ask is - will she stay at HC after this year?

Let's not act like this one program at this one school is the only one with that attitude. Schools have said they were closed to out of district students then randomly accept an athlete that wants to transfer or have major discipline issues dismissed because team "Has a shot" this year...some schools have one program that has a win at all cost attitude some have several programs with that attitude. While most schools just have a "Win, while doing your best attitude"

If you're asking me if I think it's a level playing field out there - it's probably not. But with open enrollment popular in many districts, and public schools accepting out of district students these days, it's more level that it's been.

 

I don't see how taking an 8th grader, or even several of them, is "win at all costs". Some schools take 8th graders and some don't. It risky. If you drive upperclass players away the program will stumble. But I do think a coach should be able to pick their team from the players available to them, and that paying tuition does not guarantee you a roster spot or playing time.

Let me ask you this...Hypothetically, if a high school invited an AAU team to come play under their high school and they represented this high school in summer leagues (against other high schools). (Or if coaching staff were inviting kids to come to workout with them for their school). And this AAU team that is made up of many very good (current 8th grade kids) bball players from all over the area, but all from all different school districts. And now those kids are starting to enroll at the same high school that invited them to play under their school in the summer. Would that draw your attention? Is it against the rules??? Not 100% sure. Would it be unethical? You make the call...if this actually happened somewhere.

Let me try to summarize. Did HC enrollment go up yesterday? Fact: enrollment did gain one 8th grader who happens to be a b-ball player. Opinions stated: this is one and there may be more to come.

Fact: this player left the number one academic school in Ky on 10/22 which also happened to be the day after tryout/ teams were announced. Opinions stated: this was a basketball decision.

Fact: parents tend to on occasion make bad decisions, particularly when it comes to the importance of their kid's sports. Opinions stated: this is one of those occasions.

My personal opinion: we are talking about 8th grade girl, maybe 13, playing basketball this year.(let me state it again, as a 13 yr old 8th grader.)..... Is it really that important/necessary and beneficial to the child to change schools in the middle of a quarter, create a stir/perhaps cause social issues, alienate friendships/risk potential resentments, have to purchase new colors spirit wear, lol etc. ?

What message are we sending when it becomes all about whether my DD can play basketball at the level I want her to? Yes, make no mistake, this IS a parent issue.

Is this what parenting is about..... who is benefitting from decisions such as this.....are sports, much less MS age-level sports really this important? I'm not sure, but these questions would make for an interesting commentary, if someone were so inclined.

When you present it that way, I guess good for HC - they know the system and are making it work for them. Using your example, there's nothing stopping any HS from doing this. KHSAA is very lax compared to other states on having the club/AAU/travel/select world and the high school world being one and the same year 'round. And players wanting to play HS with their club/AAU/travel/select teammates is nothing new. Don't see this as a problem. Look around at other sports. This is pretty much how programs are built.

It is 2 8th grade girls, one of whom lives closer to Holy Cross High School than any other high school, the second of which (the most recent transfer) has a parent that coaches at Holy Cross. I would submit that both of them BELONG at Holy Cross. It is truly unfortunate I think that people in Ft. Thomas will, if Remmac is correct, resent or feel alienated or create a stir because 13 year old girl is going to go to a different school. Why would they feel that way?

I agree About all that IF this is the case BUT gain a girl who goes to a catholic school in Campbell county and yes tried out for NDA on the court Monday until she was either told they had enough players or whatever then shows up at HC the next day. How does she " belong there " sounds like she belongs wherever there was a place to play. Which is totally ok as yes it's the KY way of doing things. But let's call it how it is. She was at NDA for tryouts. Confirmed by more than 5 parents. Only interest was because the provirus bper said there has never been one play that wasn't in high school. So in this one particular case it's not about how great HC is or there great tradition. It's about finding a place to play last minute. Again which is fine and just glad a 13 yr old who wants to play found a place and a very good one at that Unless there are 3 girls and not 2 being talked about

Ok a riot but we are talk about three different players Well at least I am. 2 with the same name. The original two I am very happy for. The third one that just happened Wednesday is the one I was referring to.

We said only two are there...for now. We said "hypothetically, what if an aau team did that." Are you saying that only two kids from the aau team played in the summer and more aren't coming as freshman?

 

And that parent hasn't even coached their first game at HC yet right? And that parent has multiple kids that don't go to HC, right? My question is, why don't they all go there then? If it's where they belong. And, if it was where she was supposed to go to school ( because her parent coaches there), why did they wait to pull her out a quarter into the school year and a day after Bball tryouts. Why did not wait until freshman year?

 

You can say inaccuracies all you want. I don't see where anything I said is inaccurate. Maybe it wasn't an entire aau team, because some don't live in the area. But it was a group of aau players that play together and (at the time) were enrolled at other schools. Is that inaccurate?

 

And I couldn't agree more...SHE has done nothing wrong. Always been a good kid.
