I would like for OC only to play OHS in the city to be honest. Then I want them to play BG, St.X, Trinity and Highlands in that order.

That's a mighty TALL Tree right there!

If your going to schedule competition. Schedule the best. If Catholic only has 3 competitive games, then why not. I think it will make EVERYONE happy and win or lose cause Catholic played a "tough" schedule. Catholic fans are like UK fans. "Money for nothing and chicks for free."

Toothpick,

This is interesting. How long ago did Jack Morris coach? Family of the current Coach Morris?

Anyway, it seems to me that this is the formula that has given Mayfield at least a piece of their success. Of course all programs can't do this, but I guess now that its established its just part of the Mayfield Machine! :thumb:

Jack Morris 24 season at Mayfield (1968-1992) 254-50-2 (83% winning percentage and average 10.5 wins a season) with 9 title game appearances and 4 titles. Named Kentucky Coach of the decade for the 1970's, Kentucky High School and National Coaches Halls of Fame.

...and, yes, current coach Joe Morris, is his youngest son.

Spin and JC, thanks for the notes on Mr Houchens. I thought it was McElwain and nobody else. I guess thats the beauty of having a good team as you get a chance to develop guys over there career and hopefully the can produce for you like he is his senior year! :thumb:

There are MANY more than just McElwain.... Colton, Hayes, Houchens, Namvong, Lacey, Cummings (leads the team in all purpose and receiving yards).... A TEAM this good is far more than any 1 or 2 players.

2015 Kentucky High School Football

Brown, would you know if Coach Fallin has any plans for this type schedule change. I think it would help Owensboro myself.

That's a good questions Purple88! I would like to know that answer as well. I think OHS should drop Madisonville and Warren Central for the time being. I would like to see OHS pick up a game against Reitz, Gibson Southern or a solid Southern Indiana program. I wouldn't mind seeing OHS play a Louisville school or a Tennessee school either. I see no reason for OHS to not be at the level of BG and I think the Devils are moving that way. OHS will lose a lot this year but they have some unreal talent coming up. Quality depth is the key to championship football and I think OHS has the head coach and quality assistants to make that push to get to BG's level.

D58,

After Oboro beat Mater Dei and Reitz didn't they not really want to play OHS anymore? I have no idea if this is correct but I heard 10 years or so ago that Heritage Hills wouldn't schedule OHS. For anyone wondering Mater Dei and Reitz are great Evansville programs and HH used to be no idea if they are any more ( jay cutler played there and an NFL tight end, forget his name.

I'll agree with Brown. When The Border Bowl came about. I remember Edge trying to get Castle and HH to play in the Border Bowl and they told him "our schedules are the same and will never change."

I'll be pulling for him 51, but rushing yards will be hard to find against the Red Devils. He could go for upwards of 100 but that would be on the high side I think. But the first round playoff game should be katie-bar the door!

I agree Purple. Conventional wisdom says the Colonels will be over matched and running room will be hard to find. But anybody that's seen these teams play the past 3 years knows conventional wisdom goes right out the window. Something about the Red Devils just brings out the absolute best in the Colonels. In 2012 the teams were ranked around the same and it was supposed to be a good game. The Colonels ended up winning 49-21, and if I'm not mistaken at the end of the 1Q Henderson was up 42-0 and the subs were in the rest of the way. And I know last year going into the game Henderson Co. was pretty terrible and Owensboro was supposed to destroy them and the Colonels came away with a 44-18 win over them. Throw the records out when the teams play this game. Can't wait!

Hey cols, do you know if Henderson County intends to keep playing the Southern Indiana squads or could there be a KY squad get in their early season schedule in the near future?

I know this was directed for Cols but I figured I'd give me 2 cents. I'd be surprised if the Indiana teams ever come off the schedule. I'm not against them being on it either, I understand why. With Henderson being on the border their getting quality opponents and a relatively short drive. Even though their out of state programs it's still a much quicker drive than to play in state programs of the same caliber. I will say that a lot of it depends on who the coach is though. I know back in the Duffer days and even in the Clevenger days their was always some Souther Indiana schools on the schedule (castle, Reitz, north). I believe now though with Tony Lewis being coach and coming from Reitz that he has a lot of connections with Souther Indiana teams. That's why there's more on the schedule now than in years past. This year their was 3 (memorial, Reitz and Gibson Southern) and that's the most I can ever remember being played in one season.

They just signed new 4 year deals with all three of those guys. And to be honest no way you could pass on the money they bring in. Reitz game at Henderson over 7,000 people, Memorial and Gibson Southern over 5,000. Plus really good competition.

Cols 51, You are right on. And on Evansville teams we can only play 2 because they play 7 games in their city after the 2nd week. So we had to go out of the city to get that 3rd game.

Hey Cols did you ever hear anything specific on why memorial was put on the schedule. I understand the Gibson Southern with them being out of the city. But I will say memorial kinda surprised me just because there not usually very good year in and year out (at least I thought that, could be wrong not a huge follower of Indiana football). I personally really liked the series with North that had been going on for many years. Castle & Mater Dei would have also been some fun games.

First of all North dropped us. Then memorial was only team in Evansville that needed a game. Last year memorial got dropped by some ky team late and so did Reitz so they played each other the 2 nd week of season and then again in week 8.

Toothpick, I didn't know very much about Mayfield's football history, but this really opens the door for me. So basically for 50 years, Mayfield has been working through Coach Morris' and getting to the championship game and winning championships with significant regularity.

When you win 83% of the time, that's pretty outstanding!
