Western Kentucky Power Ranking - 10/18/15

I'm sure some teams have turned down OCath, but I see Murray/Mayfield and other smaller schools get decent games. Catholic has to play their district which is not their fault and the city schools. Owensboro is always a tough game, but I think they need 1 or 2 more good games vs. a Christian County or Eville Reitz type teams. It will only help them in the playoffs.

That said - if OC plays like they are capable of this year, they can compete with anyone. I for one believe this team has great experience and great players - so far the 2nd best team on OHS' schedule.

Brown, Catholic use to play the Reitz and Memorials and BG in the Border Bowl, EVEN when OC was down. I would like to see Owensboro play Trinity and St.X. I think that will really help them.

Here's why I say they also have problems. Last year in 2014 they had to play a team out of Illinois, but They get a good home/away series with SOuth Spencer Indiana. They have been down the last two years, but always competitive, they are locked in their District games and their City games. I just don't see a whole lot of wiggle room. They are play Evansville Mater Dei next year in the first game, but AGAIN the top of their schedule is HEAVY and the BOTTOM is weak.

Having seen OC on film I feel as though they can play with anyone in their class. They had a couple chances to beat Owensboro but let Special teams beat them in the end. They will be a tough out in the playoffs.

I understand the not being able to find people to play. People think its easy and that you can just call and match up schedules and be done but Christian Co has had lots of trouble in past too. They had to play a home and away with Knoxville Fulton the last 2 years.

One of the best weekly things going on this site! Always a great read

Rambo,

I would love Owensboro to schedule them! Owensboro has BG, Warren Central, Madisonville and one of the longest series with Henderson. These have all been solid programs (WC and Madisonville down this year though). I think playing BG each year has helped Owensboro. I would replace WC or Madisonville next year if it were me. Owensboro has shown this year and last it can play with anyone.

As far as Catholic, I would lose 2 of the 3: North Hardin, Louisville Holy Cross, South Spencer. Add Christian County, add Murray in season or Mayfield (it doesn't have to be a big school just a really tough football school). The reason I say it is because I think OC is really good this year and I think would beat a Christian County or be very competitive. In a down year or rebuilding, play some of the teams you've been playing.

Hochens has done that with a darn hardwood store in his ankle .He got hurt his freshman year and had to have surgery on his ankle

Spin and JC, thanks for the notes on Mr Houchens. I thought it was McElwain and nobody else. I guess thats the beauty of having a good team as you get a chance to develop guys over there career and hopefully the can produce for you like he is his senior year! :thumb:

I would've loved to seen McCracken play Owensboro September 18th instead of lift for life acadamy..... I've heard they had a tougher out of state game originally scheduled that fell through and had to scramble to get LFL...I believe Owensboro had Daviess that week.

If your having problems with finding hard teams to play ask the AD at henderson. They have played 5 ranked teams and make it 6 when they play Owensbro. Also 4 of the 6 could make state title game if you count Owensbro.

Would not be Mayfield, they do not play other teams in their class other than district play

Hard working kid who had some injuries earlier in the season (did not play against BG) and continues to get better each week, only a sophomore.

Hey Map! I didn't realize Kenner didn't play against BG. I couldn't make it to that game and guess I just assumed he did play. How do you see the rematch playing out in Week 2 of the playoffs at BG?

Christian Co tried to schedule O Cath but they would not play, wonder why if they have had so much trouble finding teams to play and since they wanted to play Hopkinsville?

Christian did? Didn't know that. Did they want to play week 10? or during a district week.

Map and Rambo, this is interesting because as I've tried to look at OCath's schedule I really think that the Week 10 game is the only one you can really work with without setting up a murder's row in the early weeks of the season. I probably wouldn't mess with that alot other than what your already doing because the City games are good games (especially Owensboro). But that Week 10 game coming off weak district games is the slot to improve and I think Christian County would be a good partner for you here! And you could keep your money in your own pocket! Agree?

Brown, do you think it makes the most sense to put this game in the 10 slot? And if you added a second it would have to be around the Owensboro and other City games - too much?

Rambo and Brown, you know I think that scheduling a T, X, H or Manual, Fern Creek, or Ballard is really the next step for Owensboro. Sure you might take a couple losses, but so what it would get you ready for the toughest of games in the middle of the season.

I think this has really helped BG in the recent past more than most will acknowledge. Playing St X is crutial because most years the rest of their schedule one or two opponents might be equal to X, but usually not better and if you've already played a team that's better than the one your playing then that playoff opponent isn't as scary.

Brown mentioned that he thinks O playing BG every year has helped Owensboro and I totally agree, as it's kept them focused on getting better every year and they have. They could have easily won the regular season matchup, but didn't make enough plays at the end.

Concerning OCath, I would be interested to see if a Murray or Mayfield would schedule OCath considering they would likely have to meet in the playoffs. Just be interesting I think.

It will have to be that way. OC has tried everyway to add teams and it's either week 0 or week 10. They use Week O for Bowl games. Next year OC is starting up one with Holy Cross and 2 other Catholic schools in Evansville. They are locked in a 2 year contract with North Hardin.

So all this will have to be in 2017 when the new district alignments come out. You never know then. Map is right, picking up the phone and calling a school to play is not that easy. Alot of schools hold off week 10 as a "rivalry game". Just like Owensboro vs. Henderson.

BUT, week 10 is the answer for OC vs. Christian Co.

Hey Map! I didn't realize Kenner didn't play against BG. I couldn't make it to that game and guess I just assumed he did play. How do you see the rematch playing out in Week 2 of the playoffs at BG?

I feel as though both teams have improved. Christian Co probably has more but simply because they had further to go. I feel as though it will be a much better game. Personally I feel as though Christian matches up with BG better than they do with Owensboro.

The Colonels just have to prove they can show up for big games and play well. So far they've been unable to do that this season. It is tough to get a win at BG any time but CCHS usually gives BG a good game in playoffs. Right now I still think BG is better team and would win but definitely not a blowout like earlier this year.
