Correct. Humans are likely not all that special in the grand scheme of the Universe.

I am still talking about two different functions. On one hand we have the communication issue/barriers with civilizations far far away...

 

On the other hand, I maintain Aliens visit Earth all the time and choose to remain hidden from us. My loose thinking is we will make some type of scientific breakthrough that will "cause" some Aliens to reveal themselves. Just think, playing loose with a loaded particle accelerator and some liberal Aliens put the brakes on us. LOL

To expand on your thoughts ... back in the '60s-'70s, some people linked increased sightings of UFOs with humankind's exploding of atomic bomb. In other words, someone took notice of the planet when we discovered the A-bomb.

That actually started in the 40s.

 

I suppose in "Universe Terms" exploding an atomic bomb on your planet is like your smoke detector going off in your home, everyone takes notice and checks the situation out.

1,465 light-years from Earth, or about 8.6 quadrillion miles.

If we could send a message to these folks at near the speed of light, and they responded right away, we're still talking three millennia. In other words, the first message goes out when King David ruled Israel (1000 B.C.) and the answer arrives in 2015.

Taking into account the Fermi Paradox it is still unlikely we ever find proof of a current or extant alien civilization.

 

That said we'd better hope that we are sufficiently advanced to be equal to or superior any other civilizations we may encounter. I'd rather we not have a situation where we get wiped out because we tried to say "Hello" and were naive enough to think that an advanced civilization would be peaceful.

I agree with you. Maybe not in our lifetimes but given enough passage of time, it will happen. (See improbability principle)
