I guess you could take a look at the cities and states with very strict gun control laws to see how they are doing ? Compare it those that don't , that should expose the truth shouldn't it ?

I think they have fairly strict gun control. I've also read that violent crime and gun crimes increased after the ban.

Start with Chicago, our president claims they're the "model for gun control."

No, it would not necessarily expose the truth. The flaw in that method of inquiry makes an assumption that may not be true, i.e, that gun policies (pro and con) are having an effect on the occurrence of mass shootings. So, utilizing a method like this will have a real danger of coming to a conclusion based on confirmation bias.

An alternative would be to identify areas that have mass shootings, and areas that don't have mass shootings. The areas could then be compared, contrasted, and hypothesis proposed explaining the differences. Then you could test the hypothesis.

It appears we have a significant number of mass shootings in this country. There are many other countries that don't have very many mass shootings. So the first step of the inquiry could be to ask "are there any differences between the countries that could explain this?" If one has a sincere desire to try to discern any possible "truth." If one just wants to ask a loaded question, and then argue a conclusion that was reached before the question was asked, then your method is okay.

Here you go.

Start with Chicago, our president claims they're the "model for gun control."

If the idea is to look at Chicago, as an example of a place with strict gun control laws, and then gauge if they are efficient, it might be relevant to also mention that those laws have been ruled unconstitutional. Otherwise, you run the danger of coming to a conclusion that has no factual basis, and misleading others.

I'm quoting what our President claims.

That's a good place to start if you want to argue for, or against, the President. If you want to search for a possible way to decrease the number of mass shootings in this country, then starting with a quote like that, is pretty much a waste of time. Just depends on what your objective is. Political axe to grind or search for a possible solution.

Mayfield , Do you personally believe tighter and more restrictive gun control laws will lessen mass shootings ? Do you personally want more gun control laws regardless of your answer to the previous question ?

Could you put up one for murders not " gun deaths " . Accidental gun deaths and suicides or whatever shouldnt be included in this particular discussion .

Couple questions I have on this as I'm not even in the least bit informed on gun control or gun regulations and requirements...

Can you own a gun if you've been convicted of a crime in the past?

Can you own a gun if you're taking any kind of anti-depressants or "mood" altering medication?

My axe is with the gun grabbers who continue to masquerade mental health with guns. An inanimate object does not work without someone pressing the trigger.

What kind of gun control do they have over there?

Won't get into another gun debate here, other than to say that I am definitely pro 2nd amendment and am a multiple gun owner. With that said, I have a little insight to Australians and guns.

We (our basketball team/church) have played traveling teams from Australia on 3 different occasions, hosting them with families from the church twice.

One of those visits, during the overnight stay, almost ALL the kids asked the host families about guns and if they owned them. Well, almost all did. The kids then inquired about possibly shooting the guns because, as it turned out, it's just something they didn't get to do over there and they were completely fascinated with the idea of gun ownership and being able to go shoot. Well all our families who had guns obliged the kids and they went out in the country to shoot guns. Kids had a blast and were still talking about it as they were getting on their tour bus to leave.

It's darn near impossible (according to them) to get and own a gun in Australia. it's also near impossible to get gun-like products...bb guns, even airsoft guns. It's very very different than it is here.

Do they hunt in Australia ?

If they do, it's nothing close to the way it is here from the conversations we had with the Assuies.
