October 1, 201510 yr Staring on today parts of Kentucky from around the I-75 corridor towards the east are looking at a significant amount of rain. The heaviest rain accumulations looks to be east of I-65. This extends till at least Sunday. Portions of S.E. KY could be looking at 3-4" of rain. Extreme SEKY could see as much as 5". W.KY is looking at around .10 -.25". While the rest of Kentucky is looking at any where between .50-1.5" of rain. Look for flash flood watches to be issued especially for EKY.

October 3, 201510 yr Author Looks like since hurricane Joaquin is taking a more westerly track the amount of rain accumulation has been lowered for parts of Kentucky. Seems like the most rain fall will be east of I-65. From I-65 to I-75 expect around an 1/2" through Sunday. Areas east of I-75 could see anywhere from 1/2 to 2" inches of rain. The heavy rain is being caused by an upper level low pressure system that is located along the coast of Georgia combining with tropical moisture from hurricane Joaquin. The two are funneling moisture between them towards the northwest. This is where our rain is coming from. South Carolina is in the direct path of all of this moisture. I've seen forecasts that they may see upwards to 20" of rain. Our cold temps are from a front that passed us and is now just about stationary along the east coast. This with the upper level low and the hurricane is where we are getting this weather now. Our temps should rebound by the end of the upcoming week. That comes with a caveat. The rain should return by then also.

Here is the map from the GFS for next Saturday showing showers over much of Kentucky. We have about a 40-50% chance of above average rain starting next Saturday.

October 4, 201510 yr Author Here's this morning GOES water vapor imagery. It shows what is happening at the moment. Everyone can see the water vapor streaming from the hurricane back into our area. The water vapor was much stronger yesterday. You can see the low pressure system at the Florida/GA border then hurricane Joaquin in the Atlantic. I didn't think to post this until this morning. We should start drying out later today.
October 4, 201510 yr You know it is funny, I read what nWo posts about the weather and recognize that he is usually spot on. Despite this faith, I still have know idea how to read the actual maps that he displays. For example, this water vapor thing above me. I have no idea what the colors represent. So while I hang on his every word and change plans accordingly, I still cannot make heads or tails of his illustrations.
