Prayers to Gunner Kiel and his family.

That was every football parent's worst nightmare I just saw. I pray for Kiel's well being and that of his family.

Prayers to Gunner.

KIEL UPDATE: Gunner is in the locker room and under medical evaluation, but he is awake and moving all four limbs. #Bearcats

What happened?

Was sliding and got lit up from the side.

After it happened Jesse Palmer said numerous times that it should've warranted a penalty for targeting after watching the replay multiple times. Now, right before half, he's back pedaling and saying it was just a hard football hit. I wonder if ESPN got into his ear.

To the defenders credit, he did lead with his shoulder. But it was a nasty hit.

It was targeting. Kiel was sliding, right knee contacted the ground as defender launched into his head.

By every letter of the rule, it is an easy targeting call...

It was so fast, and such a bang-bang play. You very rarely see targeting calls reversed, and this one was. Makes me think the officials saw something on their slide by slide, slow mo tech that we don't have access to. The kid got a lick in on him with his shoulder, but his shoulder didn't cause his head to bounce off the turf like that.

Helmets to ground, knees to head, etc., always worry me so much more.

Prayers to Gunner! From all reports, it sounds like he is responding very well.

I thought so too but apparently not, every announcer and the halftime crew said no. I did not see it live, was it called targeting?

Reports at halftime are encouraging, hope he makes a quick recovery.

I don't trust ESPN on these types of issues any more.

It was called targeting live. On review they determined he wasn't far enough into his slide to make him defenseless. I strongly disagree...

He was still going down, Memphis guy had a chance and took it. The unfortunate side of football. Not sure if Kiel should even play anymore.
