Does anyone have any interesting stories or videos of Shaun Alexander from Boone County High School 1991-94

Shaun Alexander Sophomore Season:

 

1,095 yards & 14 touchdowns

 

Junior season:

 

2,396 yards & 42 touchdowns (versus Campbell County 7 touchdowns)

Kentucky All State running back

Listed in “Faces in the Crowd” section of Sports Illustrated in January 1994.

 

Senior season:

 

3,166 yards & state record 54 touchdowns

Named Kentucky’s “Mr. Football

Named “Old Spice Athlete of the Month” by Sports Illustrated, titled “Mr.Touchdown”

Selected All-American by Parade and USA Today‘s 1994 All USA Team

ESPN #1 high school player of the year

Had his high school number 37 retired a few weeks before his graduation

 

In three varsity seasons: rushed for 6,657 yards and 110 touchdowns—Top 10 prep all-time records.

 

All of this and UK never reached out to Mr. Alexander until his last few months in high school, which was already too late! Also, keep in mind, Boone had him as back up rb his sophomore year until the starter got hurt, hmm....the rest is history! Love those stories!! :popcorn:

I know a certain JV fastpitch coach at a school in Ft Thomas who will swear up and down that he outplayed Shaun in PeeWee football.

 

Actually ... he is correct.

 

Shaun wasn't all that great in pee wee ... he was solid ... some people would even say that Duran was better than Shaun at that time.

 

Also .. a few more interesting thoughts ...

*Funny how injuries change the course of a players life/career. I am sure that Shaun would have still been as successful .. but he got a chance a lot earlier due to the injury of one of his team mates.

*There is one school (off the top of my head) in NKY that Alexander could never get a 100+ yards against ... and I doubt that many of you would guess the right answer.

I have a really good story about Shaun Alexander. He was ridiculously good in high school!!! I also know that there was a RB at Conner at the same time that, in my opinion only, was almost as good as Shaun was. George Duvall The Bowling Ball was amazing for Conner and watching him and Shaun battle it out was quite entertaining.

 

George was a year older .. and senior year to Shaun's junior year ... George was better. Alexander certainly pushed his game to a completely different level in his senior season. He also outgained Alexander by 200+ yards in one fewer game.

 

The Bowling Ball was not only fast ... but in his senior year ... he ran through people ... and physically punished them. To this day ... I have nasty scars on my back from where the Bowling Ball ran right up my back because I didn't get my slow butt out of the hole fast enough.

George played at EKU for a season or two.

 

The other thought ... things probably would have been extremely different for George if he would not have broken his foot his junior year. He broke his foot in the 4th game of the year .... a few plays after hitting a 1000 yards for the year and didn't play again until the last game of the season.

 

I was fortunate to play on every same team every year with the Bowling Ball. Talk about someone who changed the circumstances of his life. He basically raised himself on the streets of Lexington until he was in 6th grade .. when he was adopted by a family in Burlington.

 

If you ever get a chance to hear George at a speaking engagement ... do it. I still have a hard time imaging how he made things work. (Not to mention ... the Bowling Ball is one of the funniest human beings ever!)

The last I heard, he was living in the D.C. area. Besides being retired from the NFL, does anyone know what he does today?

I think Lubrecht was better than Duvall and Alexander in pee wee. What Alexander was in pee wee was tall skinny and fast, he really needed to eat a lot of peanut butter sandwiches, all skin and bones.
