I haven't seen any mention of any kids from the smaller schools on here and maybe they aren't top 3 for OPOY or DPOY but there is a defensive player for Holy Cross that has to be in the top 5 if not the top 3. I will let you figure out who it is. Yellow Card should have the next opportunity to check them out and provide feedback.

The struggle with voting with awards is too many people only want to compare stats, there are many other things that a player of the year should be, including a leader or a rock for his team. my struggle iif I had a vote, would be how do you vote for any covington catholic defender, when in reality there strength is as a group of 5, not individually. The down side here is they are so good, you don't know how good they are individually. My own opinion, is if a player is voted player of the year, you are station without them that teams overall record is significantly worse. In the case of the covington catholic defense, if you take one player out I'm not sure there overall record changes.

 

Offensively: I think snow (where would cooper be without him up top?) wend, dj sanders, littler, and Morgan are all good too.

Another great reason to have very knowledgeable, experienced soccer minds doing the voting, they will see through all of this and select the truly best top 3, top player.

Leffler and Martin. Also Forward from CC Robbie auspurger - few others as well- lot you see really separate themselves in club.

Nah, too cheap to buy a pass this year and most of my time is consumed with other more important things. Maybe I can come up and watch from outside the fence sometime.

You're right, I have not see these 2 players from Walton Verona play, and I'm in no way diminishing their contribution to their team. But if we are now talking about a true top 10 and even defined more as a top 3 OPOY, top 3 DPOY and top 3 GKOY, how does it make any sense to list two strikers from anyone one school let alone a school with their to toughest opponents Cooper (beat WV 4-0) and Simon Kenton (beat WV 5-0) with records around 500%, opponents that realistic are a very little threat to win their region and may not even make it to their regional tournament. Walton Verona did not even score against Cooper or Simon Kenton, if either of these two players you mention should truly be on the list of top 3 OPOY they would have results against even the middle of the pack competition.

Again if people want to list two strikers from each of the schools they support then lets change the title to the Top 100 NKY players or top 33 OPOY, top 33 DPOY, top 33 GKOY.

Further to some comments made by gameplayedright...

 

Leffler is sitting at 11/10, I also remember seeing 1/2 of his assists actually came in a blowout match earlier in the season. Martin is sitting at 9/6. Another thing that must be considered is their opponent's strength of schedule, it is only -1.30. Augspurger is sitting at 13/3, his total points is 3 points behind Leffler but I would give him the nod between these 3 players because the Camels SOS is much higher at 5.53.

 

I think all 3 of these boys are good players but I am not sure their season to date puts them in the running for the top 10. This being said, I would expect to see all three of them on one of the NKAC teams named at the end of the year.

Mid-season I'd say that Brady Gessenhues is most definitely playing like one of the top players in NKY. He has been particularly effective and still remains a scoring threat even though he's been "buried in the back" for the past couple of weeks. The kid is playing with heart, for his team, and showing all of his talents and assets back there. I hope a college coach catches his game the way he's been playing of late.

 

I mentioned this in the Frosh Regional, but he and a few other varsity players came to Highlands' Freshman tourney game at 9am on a Saturday. That was really cool for them and showed me, as a parent, that the soccer community is a pretty tight nit place. Great gesture on their part. And for him as a player, he plays at a different speed than almost all of the other guys that I have seen. He is fearless in attack. You can see how he is a top fullback during club season

Understood tough to say who really is best players without taking into consideration the individual teams they play on- there are a lot of factors. A tough list to get 100 percent agreement.

Your right, hard to determine this with so many factors in play.

 

Impossible to get 100% agreement for the OPOY, DPOY and All-NKAC teams.

Tough (or impossible) to get 100 % agreement on most any top player in all youth sports.

At the end, the competition they played against, how did each player perform in the games against the top competition is very important, must be factored in. Did they not only play against the top teams (which equals top players) but did they get results against these teams? How you perform against the best is what determines the best.

 

Take the top 4 goals scorers in KY to date in order with their schools' s rank and opponents's strength of schedule, OAS.

I do not expect the KY OPOY to come from any of these schools, even though they rank 1-4 in the goals scored.

After seeing him completely take Wend out of the Connor game and then seeing how well he was able to manage Morgan in the Scott game I would put him in the top 3. he was personally the best defender I have seen play this year. He didn't have a whole lot of help in the back either. he was number 4 i believe and his last name was Enzwieler.

From Ryle: Nathan Roe Defense, enough said. Brennan Molique - one of the best all around defensive players. Plays multiple positions from Sweeper to Center-Mid, but is stout at the Right Defensive. He has also become the main striker on Corners, and Free kicks placing the ball consistently where it's needed. Will Bedel is one of the top, if not the top goalie in NKY. He has very good instincts at the goalie position with good hands and a good leg.

I saw the Birds vs the Breds last week and I was not impressed with the Birds defense at all. Multiple opportunities where the Breds got behind the defense but couldn't finish. Gesenhues was a non-factor in the game. In my opinion the best Birds Defender was Steppe. I would not put Gesenhues in a top 10 defenders list, much less a top 10 players list. Maybe you all should get out to see them play.

 

Justin Randle has to be on here as the favorite for DPOY. He is the leader of an entirely new back four for Ncc and is by far the best defender in nky. Sideline view should be able to confirm this, let's just say they stay under the same roof.

I would not consider JR a DPOY candidate, same roof or not. I think much is expected and he does a great job, but he takes too many chances. NCC defense is very good and JR is a key contributor. As a junior he will continue to develop and another year may have him in this conversation. I'm sure he appreciates the mention.
