Looking at the stats reported show a single goal scored by Hegerty. Where are you seeing this?

LOL - exactly. The level of competency for stat keepers covers a wide range. Personally, stats are something that you can look at and get a general idea who the best offensive players are but relying on them as the only measure is foolish. Who are the teams playing against? In the end, I watch them all and make a judgment based on what I see.

Hegerty and Morgan were the two for the Scott team who scored their PK's, just assuming this could have been how this mistake was made. I believe in a thread on here last year there were questions as to whether after a game ends in a 1-1 draw and a team wins in PKs do you input the score as 2-1 or add the pks and make it 5-4 at this point. this is only a guess at what could have happened I don't know. Since the coaching change I'm not sure how stats are handled

Not to worry, I check them all for accuracy. At least this year we're not getting assists awarded for every goal scored, teams awarding two assists for a single goal, or an assist to the player who takes the foul that yields a PK. That may be appropriate in rec soccer, hockey, or fantasy premier league but probably not for high school soccer.

Don't forget the assist for the parent that drove the player to the game....

Scored gets entered as 2-1 with a PK shootout noted, but none of the PK shootout goals get recorded for stats.

I think the best way to do it is look at number of goals assists a player has compared to total number of goals scored on a team. This shows how big of a role the player plays on the team. Just IMHO it's the most fair way to do it

 

I think this calculation would be more representative of a single teams Offensive MVP. This same person could end up being the OPOY as well, just not sure it is the most fair way to determine it. I think you have to look at more than just % of team goals they were involved in.

I do have more assists than matches played.... and they are all legit.

CCH scored 21 goals and gave up 2 goals in games against five non-KY teams (4.25 GFA / 0.4 GAA). In 12 games against KY competition, CCH has scored 47 goals and given up 5 (3.92 GFA / 0.42 GAA). That seems pretty darn even. CCH beat Walnut Hills 7-1 and they are Maher-ranked 46 in Ohio... what KY school would you compare Walnut Hills to in KY?

The same holds true DPOY although less measurable stats are available but do exist not yet mentioned such as number of take aways, # of headers won, number of shots on goal blocked, etc) as well as with OPOY there are less measurable defensive points of evaluation such as # of times caught on wrong side of opposing player, communication with rest of back line (e.g calling out marks).

I like the criteria you mention for the defensive players. All season I have been wondering how a defensive player is to be judged. There are so many things they do that don't get a mention on the stat sheet. One skill that may not be noticed by many fans is the ability to force the offensive player to go wide and then when they do either take the ball away or trap the offensive player on the line and force the ball out getting either a goal kick or a throw-in for your own team. I think if these kinds of things received something on a stat sheet there may be some other names that show up when discussing good defenders. Perhaps not changing the top three, but it would allow some defenders who don't have as solid a back line to be recognized for their play.

You have to look at the team as a whole a few players on one team can not make up for what a good team brings- put Leffler or Martin on any of the higher teams and they both start and put up good numbers. It's tough to compare this way but club is a good sign both excel and put up good stats!

I completely agree about your comments regarding a team as a whole, probably a different thread though, I think this one is more about the top individual players in high school this season. I am not sure anyone can say who starts on another team, or at what position, totally up to the coaches.

 

I feel that both of these boys are quality players and have done well in both high school and club. If you want to try and compare players through club teams I think it is important to remember that club, just like high school, has many different teams that play at many different skill levels. Unlike high school, it is pretty easy to differentiate the level (local, state, regional, or national) a player/team competes and has success at in club.

If head to head also counts......CCH played Conner tonight. Wend is big and strong, but both Darpel and Thiemann handled him pretty easily. Only one shot I believe and it went over the football goal posts....he was played straight up, not man marked, and was moved around to try to get him free........with that said, I would definitely want him on my team.......quality player.......

 

On the other side, Day with a goal and handled the center mid very well on a short, narrow and choppy field......Litzler with a goal and an assist while being man marked by Conner's #7 all night.....
