Pac Man Jones

Here's what's pathetic, just because this loser plays for the Bengals, most on here think it's OK along as he helps win football games, again pure class Bengal fans, How good you must feel about this fine, upstanding male role model for our young children to watch play on Sundays. If this organization had any guts it would cut this bum yesterday, but it's the Bengals so they won't, because of the Mike Brown rehabilitation program he runs for this Bengals organization. Very sad!

You don't have to look very deep on any NFL roster to find a guy(s) whose had an issue or even a few issues off the field. Heck, every high school roster has at least one bad apple. I'd venture to say that is true in almost every place that employees 50+ people. If a guy is good at what he does and can help your team or business succeed, it's easy to look past an issue (or even a few issues). I'm not saying it's right or wrong, and yes I do expect people do the right thing. And Pacman doesn't always do that. But there'd be a lot of folks looking for work in this country if you fired everyone for every screw up.

I promise you this. When you and your lovely bride finally are blessed with kids you will find that parenting is not as black and white as you make it out to be on here.

Never said it was, but okay...

Well if this "grown man" costs my team a ton of yardage on penalties and stops scoring drives, I yank his "grown man" rear off the field. I get the emotion argument, but as a "grown man" you have to somewhat keep it under control.

The NFL is a joke! I had to make my son go in the other room when they kept showing the replay. I would suspend Jones for the season. Definitely not what you want your kid to see when your trying to teach them about sportsmanship.

Out of 175+ fines handed out last year regarding incidents only ON the field, 1 of them was higher than Jones

Never said it was, but okay...

I think many long-timers would disagree. Like a lot of us before we had kids we had an idea of how we would do things. We all found out that what we THOUGHT and what we found out was real world were sometimes two different things.

It's not a criticism. We all went through it. I just chuckle when you make definitive statements like "if kids look up to an athlete....bad parenting." It's not that simple. It's how you react to them logically being influenced by certain people that makes you a good or bad parent.

What in the world are you talkng about?

You were afraid your 4th grade son was going to see violence WHEN WATCHING AN NFL GAME? Too late, holmes.

I didn't make a definitive statement. I made sure I said it was my opinion.

Let's rephrase to meet your standards...If a parent allows a child to view an athlete as a role model that is bad parenting, once again IMO. Better?

^ Sounds definitive.

Again, too black and white as to what you typed which is probably different than what you actually mean.

"Allow?" Kids are going to look at people who have fame and money. They're going to be influenced in different ways. Batting style is one simple one. Way they walk. Words they may use. Liking things that person does. Most of the time that's going to be fine. Parents have to realize the "why" behind it and then explain reality to them. Will they get it? Maybe. Might take a while. Might take a bad incident before they realize "Oh, now I see what Mom and Dad have been telling me."

"Role model" - what does that entail? In what areas? How is he a role model?

Your job IMO is NOT to TELL your child what's right and wrong. Your job is to help them UNDERSTAND why you believe that. You may think what you TOLD them had an impact. I can tell you from experience that you are fooling yourself if you think they hear it, understand it, and agree with it.

I took the TELL path early. I adjusted once I figured out it's not black and white.

You will as well.

I think my team needs a few more real bastards on it and a few less potheads. I'd take pacman in a heartbeat.

I'd trade him for Mitchell in a nanosecond given the chance.

Anyways....

Back to Pac Man....He's fortunate he wasn't suspended. Wonder if Cooper saying he didn't think he should be played a factor in it?

Can't have Pacman, he is our player!!!

Smart move for Cooper since he was no Angel and because Cooper holds so much promise as an elite WR he doesn't need to be labeled a complainer.

You think young children should be looking up to athletes as roles models? Well, that explains a lot.

Athletes are no more role models than politicians are. The days of athletes as positive role models are LONG over with.
