I remain unconvinced on Scott County, but I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree there.

 

True, PRP and Manual can't beat the big three most years, but Manual can always compete with them and PRP looks to be on the rise. This is Fern Creek's first year in 5A. A title would surprise me, but I expect them to do well in the play-offs and could easily see them in a state semifinal.

 

Great to hear that about Station. I'm very much looking forward to Fayette County schools becoming strong contenders. Steel sharpens steel; improving the quality of football in any area benefits the entire state.

 

Yeah we can disaree on SC and dont get me wrong their coach has done a wonderful job building that program it will be interesting to see if they can sustain it or if he leaves can a new coach build upon it. I do have one question you didnt answer, even though I believe Trinity might win a title in Ohio Division 1and they would always be very competitive I dont believe they would dominate like they do in Kentucky they would even have a hard time winning the GCL south every year(they would win their share) going against ST. X, Moller, Elder, Lasalle, schools which are very similar to them with a distinct advantage over the public schools. The only public school in Cin that can compete with GCL on year in and year out basis is Colerain and there are other good public school programs in Cincinnati but very tough for them to be competive with teams that get players from all over the metro area. Trinity is a great program but in the state of Kentucky they do have an advantage over the majority of the competition and I have no problem that, the other schools are trying to find ways to catch up but it is very difficult without an open enrollment policy, SC has found some success and maybe some other county programs or NKY teams or Lex teams can find ways to beat them.

The Catholic schools succeed more because they have a tradition, build a strong, disciplined team that can win even against better talent, and have community support like no other. I know adults up here that still argue about the current team of their Alma Mater.

I agree with the Catholic tradition, the support and dedication of the schools which is also great advantage that is earned by each school not given to them. I'm Catholic and my kid goes to a Catholic school so I see it first hand everyday. I love the tradition of the Catholic schools, I played basketball at BS in the 80's on some great teams in front of big big crowds and then played and coached at th college level and I will never forget on a recruiting trip going to a Lasalle/Elder basketball game and loving every minute of it due to how great the student sections were. But in the case of Trinity/St. X I do feel they have a big advantage over most their competiton in football in Kentucky by being able to get talent from all over, I agree you have to develop a program like Trinity/ST.X have done for 50+ yearsto make kids want to go there (even pay tution at Catholic schools) and that is why I continue to say Lex. needs open enrollment and 1 top coach can build a top notch program like Colerain and the top kids in Lexingon would migrate to that program the same as alot of the top players in Cincinnati that dont go to a Catholic school migrate to Colerain. Lex. would probably still have to find that top coach :lol2::lol2:

I honestly struggle to understand why open enrollment isn't the norm. We are a society based on individualism and self determination, yet we eagerly limit people in school choice by drawing arbitrary lines. The money should follow the student to any public school they want to attend.

Yeah finding a great coach is hard!! Changing the subject I think Im going to go to the Elder/Scott Co. game a friend of mine at work his kid starts Nose Guard for SC, do you know if the parking is terrible up at Elder if we get there little late, I hate going to some schools due to the parking issues. I went to a game at the Pit but it was back in the 80's.
