Connecticut To Penalize Coaches Who "Run Up" Football Scores

Featured Replies

Why not apply this pathetic rule in the classroom as well? Let's say the lowest score on a test is a 35%. Any student caught scoring 86% or above will be suspended under the new rules. :creepy:

Sort of like grading on a reverse curve.

WlW recently had a guest who has written extensively on the subject of the harm we do young people attemting to coddle them. I can attest personally to the fact that when they enter industry, they are sometimes shocked that they are expected to behave in a certain way and there are are consequences for those who do not. I hires a lot of ex-athletes because they knew what it was like to conform or be punished in some manner.

For anyone who thinks that this hurts render psyches, you should read the story of the Ga. Tech-Cumberland(if I remember correctly) football game. It was won by Tech something like 243-0. The longest Cumberland gain was a loss. The Cumberland players joked in the huddle about who had to carry the ball.

The story went on to state that the players bonded and had many, many reunions. They also enjoyed unusual success in life as the article states what each of them went on to become. The Connecticut players will go on to become good Democrats.

In a related story...if a team is leading by more than 30 points at half time, the team that is leading will be required to send their playbook to the opposing teams locker room with a promise to only run plays listed on pages 7 and 22. Also, the winning teams players will be required exchange uniforms with the band members who will replace them in the second half. Additional studies will be needed to measure the angst created amongst the remaining band members.

I agree the Conn. got this wrong. But there should be some accountability for coaches that needlessly score on teams when they are up by a bunch. The problem is that they are trying to take a subjective matter and make it as objective as possible.

The problem is that there is no way to rule on this kind of conduct, either objectively or subjectively. Let the future sort it out. You reap what you sow.

Haven't they heard? The "Self-Esteem" experiment was an absolute failure. All we have done is created a generation who believes they're entitled to everything without the hard work to get there.

If they're going to do that then why not just make a mercy rule and let the boys go home early.

You want real embarrassment???

A team is leading late in the first half...35-0. The Coach of the team that is winning leaves in his starters for the rest of the game and tells them to play all out but drop to a knee just short of the losing teams goal line every time. They rack up 4000 yards of offense but don't score more than 35 points.

That would be fun now wouldn't it?

One thing for sure is it would show the powers that make such stupid rules just how stupid the rules they make are. Nevermind...they are too stupid to realize that they are stupid.
