I've been to a Catholic wedding that lasted 15 minutes. Mine lasted 17 minutes. I've also been to ones that have lasted well over an hour.

 

I've seen numerous people wear jeans and a collared shirt to a Catholic wedding. It's not something I would do. I always where a suit and tie to a wedding unless noted differently in the invitation.

No. Even though the readings are different, there is no need to go to Mass Sunday morning if you went Saturday night (starting at 3:30 - any time before is a Saturday Mass and does not fulfill the weekly obligation.)

You're going to a church wedding, not Turfway, so dress up some. Wear a tie and sports coat, and shine your shoes. Feel free to shed the tie and coat at the reception.

LRCW, I'll give you an example of the latitude you'll see in dress. When my son got married, my ex's father wore a suit. My father wore his best shirt, a pale green affair, untucked, with his best black dress pants. My ex wanted my son to tell my dad to tuck in his shirt. But my son refused, because he was totally fine with my dad being just the man he was, and was incredibly happy my dad came to the wedding. If you made the guest list, you should just be the person you are. They invited you BECAUSE YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM AS YOU ARE....even if you wear Crocs. .

Are both bride and groom Catholic? If so then a mass is likely. If not then probably just a liturgy of the word.

To echo the above, if both sides are Catholic, prepare for an hour minimum. If only one side is Catholic, possibility they will drop it down to just a nuptials service and not distribute Communion. Also depends on the church they are using - you're not going to go to a cathedral for just a nuptial service in my opinion. The best way to know without asking is grab the program and see if they have an entry for presentation of the gifts. If there is one, buckle in for the long haul.

 

Also slacks and long sleeve dress shirt or anything more formal than that will suffice in my book. I usually rock the tie and jacket but there will be many who won't.

Impressive. I would say that's the combination I would choose as well. You just don't see much of it I would think.

Often at the beginning of the Wedding ceremony when the Priest is welcoming folks… he will extend a special welcome to non-Catholic guests. This may include a very brief overview of what to expect during the Ceremony and Communion. It’s kind of fun when non-Catholics attend our services!
