Northern Kentucky Power Rankings 08-24-15

My thinking in a nutshell. This week's rankings should reflect where these teams are this week.

I realize there are times when we might feel like the better team didn't win and rank accordingly. This game between HHS and Cooper wouldn't fall into that category.

Couldn't agree more.

If you are having a "WEEKLY" ranking, then the teams should be placed where they are "That specific week" Which is why Cooper should be ranked ahead of Highlands. Can anyone tell us what Cooper needed to do to be ranked ahead of Highlands? What didn't they do to be ranked ahead of Highlands? Remember this is just for this week, not week 11.

I agree with you Watusi which is what I'm trying to understand from CWB what exactly a weekly poll is that isn't based on how the teams are that week.

I'd love to see how CWB would answer the questions I posed because I would think the answer to the first question would be to beat Highlands significantly and I don't think there is any question they did that. Now if the answer to question 1 is "nothing" then maybe he shouldn't be making a weekly poll and instead just make a season poll and leave this ranking the same throughout the season.

I don't have anything against CWB, I really don't. He's a great guy. I think possibly the problem I have with this thread is the name. "Bluegrass Preps Northern Kentucky Power Rankings 08-24-15" because it really isn't BGP's power rankings, it's CWB's personal rankings. I say that because it seems all the powers that be associated with BGP (Admins) have all said in here that Cooper should be ranked above Highlands.

Maybe it's just nitpicking, but I always thought BGP Rankings, or awards etc. were done by a committee. This one I believe was done soley by one person but was able to put the stamp of the web site as if it was endorsed by such. So what is stopping say....uk#1 fan from creating a ranking of his own and name it Bluegrass Preps Statewide Power Rankings 08-24-15? (anyone want to guess who he'd have as #1 ? lol)

^Preach it!!

Here is something else. For some reason if CWB after this weeks games, and lets say both Highlands and Cooper wins, and he puts Cooper ahead of Highlands. What exactly changed from the week where Cooper beat Highlands but was placed behind them and then the next week that both teams won their games and then all of a sudden Cooper was placed in front of Highlands. What exactly changed from one week to the other? I'd be curious to see that one lol. That is why I said Cooper for the remainder of the year, even if Highlands loses every game the rest of the way, should never be placed in front of Highlands in this poll simply because if what they did in the first week wasn't good enough to put them higher than the BlueBirds, then nothing that can happen would warrant Cooper moving up for the rest of the season.

We would part ways there and I think that is flawed logic. Rankings are fluid and the whole body of work as the season progresses will shape them. If Cooper, or anyone else, separates themselves by sustained success, I'm sure these rankings will reflect it. It is a tough job and that is made even tougher with only 1 week of games to digest. After more games are played, if CWB thinks a shift should be made, then I have confidence in him that he will make it.

Make no mistake, this ranking done by CWB is endorsed by BGP. CWB is in charge of facilitating it, but it is an official BGP ranking. We don't have to agree with every point. Nobody is going to do a BGP rankings without the blessing of BGP. ;)

It is a new and fun feature for us. Try to enjoy it and watch it evolve without getting too worked up.

Lol, not getting worked up, just having some fun with him is all. I think he got the point.

In the end, nothing has changed. Cooper has never gotten the respect they deserved each and every year and this was simply proof of what we've been saying for the last 5 years.

Hellbird, as someone who has worn CWB's shoes in another region, I have a take on how the rankings may have happened. I think it COULD (as I won't speak for CWB directly) be that CWB wanted to get his rankings out as quickly as he could because a few other similar regions new Power Rankings were out after the first games. So he is working on this in the wee hours of the morning (Monday morning just before 2:30 am if I'm not mistaken and he likely has to go to work in a few hours) and sometimes things that are crystal clear to us after a little sleep aren't that way when your trying to get something done and your tired. Not saying exactly; saying could or likely. Then when the rankings are out. They are out and there may be no recourse for that other than to say hey I make a mistake. Because when team A beats team B. The next week Team B can't be above Team A. Just my 2 cents.:idunno:
I gave the Highlands vs. Cooper ranking a good bit of thought. Maybe it had a bit to do with the time of night that I finished things up, but I had a lot of varying thoughts on the ranking.

The basic premise of my thinking was this:

Cooper is good. REALLY good. I think the Cooper football program's record, topped with this win last Friday, has proven that Coach Borchers is among the premier coaches in Kentucky. That said, Coach Weinrich is pretty much right up there with Borchers. Both teams are extremely well coached.

On Friday, we saw the Birds get outplayed in essentially every aspect of the game. Cooper came out ready to go, and Highlands didn't. To say that isn't the average Highlands modus operandi would be an understatement. If there's one thing I've learned from closely paying attention to Highlands football for the last 25 years, it's that Highlands improves each week...always. I expect to see the Bluebrirds playing with a MAJOR chip on their shoulder for the remainder of the season.

No doubt that Cooper is NOT going to be gearing down, but I was also taking some major consideration in the fact that Highlands is going to be doing some MAJOR gearing up now.

Long story short, I think we're going to learn a lot in the upcoming games about where these two teams belong in the power ranking. Maybe I was wrong this week, maybe I wasn't. I won't have any problem admitting that I didn't have it right if that's how it shakes out.

Well that's an armpit excuse. Cooper is used to not getting the recognition they deserve, so there's no surprise here. I think we all like the win/loss column better than these rankings, because that's what really counts.

Not giving credit where credit is due to kids and this poll has no legitimacy.

Cooper is right where they want to be, if not even a little lower :)

This team loves and wants to fly under the radar, hopefully be the under dog and be around when the playoffs hit and be a real threat at a deep run. These rankings mean diddly squat to the coaches/players at Cooper and I think it is more for us fans to debate over. Should Cooper be ahead of Highlands? Yes, they beat them soundly. Does that matter to the Jags? Not at all!

Good luck to both teams tomorrow night!

Even if he was rushed. I could see leaving Team A above Team B if those two teams didn't play eachother. But the fact that they did play eachother and Team B soundly defeated Team A then there is still no reason at all to leave Team A above Team B, doesn't matter if it was 5am and being up all night because out of all the rankings, that should have been the easiest team of all of them to rank.

Unfortunately you are correct. I was hoping after a goods night rest CWB would see his mistake and fix it, but the fact it hasn'tbeen corrected makes this ranking even less credibile than it was before which is a shame because it does bear the BGP name on it.

It's that ol' sayin, it's not where you start, it's where you finish:popcorn:

Take a deep breath, Cooper fans. There are 9 more weeks left in the season. Keep doing what you're doing and there's no way Colonels Wears Blue can deny you.

I can't help but read this thread and picture all of the Cooper fans as the fellas from Bill Swerski's Superfan.

God, versus 'da Jags...who wins?

'Da Jags!
