AAA Frisk, Duvall

Going back a ways, but Larry Schreiber was unstoppable for Dixie in the 60's. Played 10+ years in the NFL for the 49er's and Bears!!

If we're going "old school" we would have to consider Holmes' Ron Bird who played at Alabama .

Tough call but I think I still will take Melvin Miles as the best back out of CSHS.

Melvin was my hero growing up--but in all reality--this wasn't even close.

I spent a lot of time studying "Mercury" Miles--and the major difference that I see is that he wasn't as versatile as Duvall. Melvin spent most of his time running off tackle or further out. Duvall could/did run every hole with success. Not to mention the fact that he physically punished people on every play.

Duvall broke all of Melvin's records--in 2 fewer games. (Not to mentioned that he demolished those records). One could argue that the 1983 team may have played a tougher schedule--but I don't know if it was that much tougher. (If at all). Miles also had the luxury of playing with 2 other backs who were termed as "dangerous" (which could also be why he didn't gain as many yards as the Bowling Ball). Duvall was pretty much the only person getting the ball. (When you watch the films now--it is almost a laugher--when he moves on tape--there are 9 guys who made adjustments to him). When the tapes that I have seen of the 83 team--they were so good that other teams could not afford to key Miles like that.

I'm glad you mentioned Berger because I was just thinking....a good buddy of mine and also a Class A player was an outstanding back for Bellevue in the early 90's...dislocated his shoulder and never was the same his SR. yr. Brad Hissong....one of the fastest backs I have seen. His jr year took them to the State Championship game vs. Russellville. He was getting some big time school interest after that season.

NewCath sent Ed Ziegler to Notre Dame after claiming a 2nd place finish in the GCL during the '65 season, if I remember correctly. I would say that that qualifies him as top 10 in NKY all-time.

:ylsuper: Not many remember him and I was just a kid when he was playing but he is my cousin and to be able to go to Notre Dame was quite an accomplishment for him. :thumb:

Where does that fit in the KY Class system??? :p

He played in the very difficult GCL League that was a much better Class then anything Ky had to offer. Look up his records gt and you will see what an incredibile player he was at NewCath or apparently this is just another one of those posts you like to put on here as you race your way to 40,000.:p
