PurplePride92
CBoy78 said it. I remember reading it earlier and yes I went back to look to see who said it.#sorrynotsorry What does it mean? Last season there was a belief amongst some of the CCH faithful that the team quit during that game. The team reportedly seemed disinterested and it was being tossed around that the coaching staff had lost the team. With Coach Eviston taking the helm the program has seemed to have gotten a much needed shot in the arm. There is a lot of enthusiasm and hope for better days of CCH football because of Coach Eviston and the staff. Needless to say the CCH faithful are excited and ready for the season. Do I agree? As a closet CCH fan who would happily send his kid to school there if I was in NKY, I can only agree based on posts seen here on BGP. There is definitely a new attitude at CCH and I'll be pulling for them to regain the respect they once had throughout the state. It's good for the entire state when CCH is respected as a football powerhouse.

Clyde
I didn't see the game. If any players on the team quit that's 100% on the players. 100%. Don't make excuses for any kids that quit.

Not making excuses. Reporting what the conversation was about the Beechwood game which is what the question was about. I wasn't at the game either but I know what people were saying then and I see what they are saying now.

Voice of Reason
I didn't see the game. If any players on the team quit that's 100% on the players. 100%. Don't make excuses for any kids that quit. I was at the game. I didn't see anyone quit. What I saw was Beechwood kicking CCH's butt. Beechwood took the ball on the opening drive and ran it right down the Colonel's throat. Beechwood was just better than CCH last year. The Colonels definitely did not quit. Remember, they lost their starting QB in the first half so that surely had an impact. They had a couple drives that got stopped near the goal line by Beechwood. CCH scored a TD mid way through the 4th quarter. There was no quit by CCH. There was a solid win by Beechwood in a game that was won at the line of scrimmage by the Tigers. What did happen is a bunch of the pompous CCH fans couldn't take getting beat by the 1A Tigers so they got their shorts in a bunch and took it out on their coach. I will tell who did quit at that game - the Crazies. They left in the third quarter. But don't worry Colonel fans. Beechwood's line graduated so it will be an uphill battle for the Tigers this year against their 5A rival. CCH will be a big favorite this year, and an even bigger favorite the year after. If Beechwood beats CCH this year or next, I think those Colonels fans who couldn't take losing to Beechwood better start looking for another coach. SportsGuy41017
There was A LOT of things going on with the CCH team and staff around the Beechwood and Highlands game, I wouldn't say that the CCH faithful couldn't stand to lose to the Tigers, as well as a couple of other issues. But, CCH seems to have hired a coach who could make some strides there.

StateChamp97
The actual "quiting" does fall 100% on the individual players that said it. The culture in which the kids felt the need to "quit" should be 100% blamed upon the loosely described "coaching staff." If I played for a bunch of know nothing's...I might contemplate my dedication as well. I'm pretty sure the "quiting" had nothing to do with playing/losing to beechwood. Sorry but it didn't! PurplePride92
PP, I think VoR is challenging your grade in this thread. No argument there. VoR was at the game and consistently proves that Voice of Reason is the most accurate name for any BGP poster that I have ever seen. My post was based off of hearsay and innuendo. There was definitely a theme going around at that time that there was a disconnect on the team. Whether that was true or not is not something I can accurately assess from Danville, KY but I do know what I read and heard. I went back and looked at the old Beechwood/CCH Update thread and Hellbird mentioned late in the thread that CCH refused to quit so that needs to be noted on my end in this discussion. At the same time there were a lot of Colonel faithful upset with the direction of the program. I recall seeing comments involving money coming into the school being affected as a result. For the purpose of this thread I think the Beechwood game was the straw that broke the camel's back. Whether it was team performance or attitude it's clear the Beechwood game became a benchmark of sorts. Otherwise it never would have been mentioned in the first place. This is a good post. I will say again, the CCH team did not quit in the Beechwood game. They had 3 good drives in the second half including on their last offensive possession of the game where they scored a TD. The team did not quit. Individual players may have quit, but the team did not. To that, those individual players and any parents and administrators that backed those quitters are to blame for all this quitting talk. They are the ones that put a blemish on the CCH program by causing this type of discussion even take place. The coaches are to blame in only one way - if they knew the individual players with the attitude issues were quitting and hurting team chemistry and did nothing about it, then I would blame the coaches for that. If dismissing players is necessary for the team chemistry, then that is what you have to do.
C-BOY78
First of all, when I said no more Beechwood games, I was not talking about playing the game in the future. I was talking about a coaching staff that blamed the kids for the lost to Highlands. A staff that was pitting the offense against the defense, had a player tell me that it was like they wanted us to fight. Sitting players or calling them stupid for suggesting plays even thought they where told to so if they saw something. There was a lot that happened that week that played into a team that was not ready to play, also losing your QB early didn't help.Yes Beechwood came to play and took it to CovCath and earn the win. The team chemistry was disrupted by the coach staff, this was a close net team and they circled the wagon around each other. I had a chance to talk to many player after the season and I was shocked to hear what was going on before and after that game. I was disappointed when Coach Wirth left, but the more I talked to the kids and parents he maybe should have been fired after the Beechwood game or a least a couple of coaches. That why I said in other post the attitude is 180 deg from last year.
