Most of the early forecasts I've seen have North Carolina number 1.

Lots of things I'm not certain about concerning the upcoming season. The one thing I am, is that Maryland isn't anywhere close to the best team in the country.

^ I'm not drinking the Maryland kool-aid quite yet either, though I do think they're really good. I know Melo Trimble is really good & probably one of the top five players in the country. They've got Diamond Stone coming in, but I wouldn't put them at the top. I'm also not as high on Virginia and Iowa State as ESPN is.

 

I would rank North Carolina #1 for now. Duke has some very good talent coming in. The addition of Murray reduces some of the concerns I had about UK. I'm fine with Kansas at 5, but I might rank Wichita State a bit higher than 9th.

 

I think Cal could be a dark horse, but they could also be a huge flop. I like Indiana's top four players, but having Crean on the sidelines gives me pause. LSU is a mix of how I see Cal & Indiana. They have a lot of upside with young players, but nothing at all going for them in their head coach.

 

I'd probably go:

Duke

Maryland

Kentucky

Kansas

Not taking up for Roy or anything because I'm definitely not a fan of UNC, but anyway you slice it he's still won two national championships.
