My top 5 in no particular order are...

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper

"The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes

and surprisingly Shawn Michaels

Liking your list a ton...I would consider dropping HBK for The Rock and Dusty for Hulk Hogan.

If you consider managers as "hype" guys then Paul Heyman is near the top.

It starts and ends with Flair. The best until he got a little older and a wee bit goofy if you will.

The Rock, Piper, Rhodes and jimmy Hart were right there. I know Hart wasn't a wrestler but who cares.

As for the worst, Lex Luger and Rick Martel.

No one has mentioned Jesse "the Body" Ventura. He was great at hype, on the mic, and now does it on the political scene. Same character, just a different ring.

I thought about Jesse, but I don't really remember watching him wrestle. I do remember his color commentary being pretty good.

Hard to argue with your list. I wouldn't have HBK in my top five. A lesser known but brilliant talker was Ron Wright out of Kingsport, TN. I know you know him but probably most of our posters don't. Also, Lawler was pretty good in his day. How about Handsome Jimmy Valiant? He would definitely be in my top five!
