July 24, 201511 yr So...after all of this, I still haven't heard a solution from hellcat. Would love to hear one/some cause I'm all ears. If you read the article or his posts, he and the article did suggest a solution. Better tougher background checks and a better certainty that any mentally ill Tom, Dick, or Harry isn't granted the right to own a gun. With the thousands of guns that are already out there, this might not stop the whole problem, but it's a damn good place to start. The problem does feel overwhelming, but still if ignored, it's only going to get worse. Personally, I'm more worried now than I ever have been in my whole life being out in the public because I get the sneaking suspicion that there's way more guns being carried than there ever was before, and with my general mistrust in the sanity of many of the general public, and the ever present stress levels in crowded cities, who's to say that calm mentally stable Joe Schmo can't snap, and even if that's a rarity, there's still enough not so mentally stable Joe Schmo's running around out there. I've nothing against searching for a solution, and those who do... seriously... why the hell would you have a problem with that?
July 24, 201511 yr Violent crimes by gun are on the decline. Next. So since it's on the decline it's still not a problem? Somebody got their head in the sand?
July 24, 201511 yr So since it's on the decline it's still not a problem? Somebody got their head in the sand? I said it was a problem. I was quoting Hellcats trying to paint a picture it's worst now than the 70s.
July 25, 201511 yr Author My changes are noted. Care to discuss that? That's garbage and you're wrong they murder at the same ratio of their population as whites. Simple Google will give you that.
July 25, 201511 yr Author I said it was a problem. I was quoting Hellcats trying to paint a picture it's worst now than the 70s. Sounds great it's on the decline. What did we do right? Let's do more of it. I don't think anybody is going to like part of the answer causing the decline.
July 25, 201511 yr Author To the thread topic it's such a bad premise I didn't want to address it. If you can't tell the difference between murder and terrorism you don't need to be in a serious discussion. The entire premise is a deflection. Terrorist want to end the American way of life. They want us all dead , they want to end our freedom and they don't want our way of life to exist. The comparison are crimes out of passion , for wealth , anger , or pure mental instability. There is no motive for war or to bring down an entire way of life. It's pure deflection by a liberal author who doesn't want the 2nd ammendment and believes anyone questioning the middle east is a racist. I don't accept mental midget opinions as a serious topic of discussion. Is this Donald Trump? That's his tool run down a person but ignore the argument. I will spell it out for ya... We as Americans are scared to death of ISIS/terrorists and believe they are a huge threat to our safety when, in fact that threat is minute compared to the loss of life by guns every year. We are willing to fight tooth and nail for the same instruments that wipe us and our loved ones out. That's what you call Irony. The author's premise, I agree, is for the citizens of the United States to demand solutions. No one cared to lose freedom when it came to the Patriot Act.

I'm anti patriot act . I'm a resident libertarian. So let's try again . You said above we won't like the answer. What is the answer?
July 25, 201511 yr Author I said three times in this thread universal background checks that actually work. That would be a start. Reissue the Sale of Assault weapons ban would be a number 2.

We agree on the Patriot Act. I was referring to part of the reason of the decline in crime. Disclaimer: I don't want this to derail the thread, nor do I support the act of abortion. Donahue-Levitt hypothesis points to the legalization of abortion as a correlating cause in the drop in crime over the last 30 years. Stating that the unwanted children weren't there to commit the crime.

So what you are really saying abortion clinics murdered more black babies so less crime ? Wow racism.
July 25, 201511 yr I said three times in this thread universal background checks that actually work. That would be a start. Reissue the Sale of Assault weapons ban would be a number 2. We already gave back round checks and point two wouldn't do a thing. You do realize assault weapon is a made up term and used in a very small % of all murders. Handguns are used in most. Do you want to ban them?
July 25, 201511 yr Sounds great it's on the decline. What did we do right? Let's do more of it. I don't think anybody is going to like part of the answer causing the decline. More people carrying? You're right there, the majority of the left won't like that.

Neither you or the author seem to want to talk about the lives saved every year because of guns and gun owners, I always find that amusing.

We have background checks. How will they stop a criminal from getting a gun? On the assault weapons ban: 1. Define an assault weapon. 2. What is the percentage of crimes committed with an "assault weapon"? 3. How will an "assault weapons" ban stop a criminal?
