July 27, 201511 yr Cars and guns are such a weak connection. Unless you are an officer of the law, a soldier, a firearm trainer of some type then you probably don't have a daily use for your gun. Kind of like a fire extinguisher. Back to the issue. Do you think the gun laws we have are enforced to the fullest extent? Isn't it a bit hypocritical to make post after post basically claiming that guns have no use, other than violence, while admitting that you yourself own them? If you feel so strongly about how useless they are, why do you have them?
July 27, 201511 yr Author Yeah, because those things stopped people from driving irresponsibly, it stopped automobile deaths...oh...wait. Again an all or nothing argument. No such thing as eradicating all gun violence. I believe lawmakers and law enforcers are trying to stop drunk drivers, texting and driving, and other irresponsible driving. I couldn't imagine if automotive, alcohol, and phone industries fought against making the usage of their products safer like the gun industry does.

You're a responsible gun owner, RTS is a responsible gun owner, Big V is a responsible gun owner, etc, etc....Why should you guys have to jump through more hoops and hoopla to own a firearm just because a very very very miniscule number of gun owners commit crimes?

That would be the case for all laws throughout civilization. A minuscule number of people do something and it infringes or harms others and we have a law.
July 27, 201511 yr That would be the case for all laws throughout civilization. A minuscule number of people do something and it infringes or harms others and we have a law. Right, and we already have laws on the books. Making it tougher for you to own a gun isn't going to stop the small number that commit gun crimes from doing so, so other than being a major inconvenience to law-abiding citizens what good would more regulation do?
July 27, 201511 yr Not equitable compare cars and vehicles to guns. They aren't a constitutional right, just a tool to get from place A to B. That was their purpose. There are lots more vehicles and people using them than guns. Guns on the other hand were invented to kill things or people. Big difference in their purpose. I understand banning guns is unconstitutional and most should have a right to own them. Been down this road ad nauseum on here. No one's view has changed, no one's that I can see. Mine has on assault weapons because I don't know what they are. If they are defined where ALL could agree then maybe I would have an opinion. For me reasonable, enforceable gun ownership requirements and licensing would be a great start.

Those have been closely regulated since the 1930's and at this point it is illegal to own one that was manufactured after May 19 1986. The ones manufactured prior to that date cost thousands of dollars and require an ATF background check and an individual "Stamp" costing a couple of hundred dollars for each one you own. What is commonly referred to as an Assault Rifle is an AR-15 which stands for Armalite Rifle not Assault Rifle after the company that developed it. The AR-15 looks almost identical to real military issue Assault Rifles based on the M-16 platform. Those firearms may be fired in semi-automatic (just like a regular hunting rifle), 3 round burst or full auto. The AR-15 also fires smaller and less powerful rounds than nearly all hunting rifles. The AR-15's "Sin" it is black and looks mean and militaristic. But you only get one bullet with one squeeze of the trigger. These guns are great for varmint hunting, plinking or target shooting and even home protection.

I've often said just enforce the laws we have.

I said earlier if we can find Earth 2.0 we can find a way to make sure the wrong people don't get guns. After 9/11 we found organizations were not doing their jobs. Same story here. Who isn't doing their job? What is slipping through?
July 28, 201511 yr There is a difference between individual/personal safety and national security. Darn right we should be worried about ISIS/terrorists as a country.
